Kneel Before Zod#8 was written by Joe Casey and drawn by Dan McDaid. After a long and grueling fight, Zod and Sinestro agree to talk. Thaaros, Green Lantern’s New Big Villain, Explained

The United Planets Should Have Been a Force for Good

In the cosmic side of the DC Universe, very few villains are as powerful as General Zod and Sinestro, and to hear them acknowledge Thaaros as bad speaks volumes to the UP dictator’s character. Introduced inAction Comics#1036, during Superman and the Authority’s liberation of Warworld, the Durlan Thaaros schemed and connived his way into the leadership of the United Planets, a loose organization of alien worlds in the DC Universe, similar toStar Trek’sUnited Federation of Planets. While seemingly benevolent on the outside, the United Planets are engaged in shady activities.

The Guardians of the Universe, the former bosses of the Green Lantern Corps, turned control of the organization over to the United Planets, who reorganized the group. Under the influence of Thaaros and the United Planets, the Corps has taken on a darker edge. Long-serving Lanterns such as Hal Jordan and John Stewart were expelled, and replaced with boot-licking “yes men.” Furthermore, as seen inAbsolute Power, Thaaros hassigned a treaty with Amanda Waller. This treaty effectively “quarantines” Earth, allowing Waller to implement her agenda without alien interference. Thaaros quickly made a name for himself.

Thaaros Has Done What Many Have Tried: Destroy the Green Lantern Corps

Sinestro tried for years to destroy the Green Lantern Corps, and Thaaros managed to do just that, corrupting the organization and permanently tarnishing their reputation.

And now Thaaros’ reputation has spread throughout the universe, and other cosmic villains are coming to the realization they are nothing before the Durlan. Sinestro tried for years to destroy theGreen LanternCorps, and Thaaros managed to do just that, corrupting the organization and permanently tarnishing their reputation. Both Sinestro and Zod are mass murderers, and even they are taken aback by Thaaros’ plans for galactic domination. In just under two years, Thaaros has become the most powerful villain in the galaxy, and even other cosmic bad guys admit this fact.
