Olivia Plath ofWelcome To Plathvillefame has made some disturbing allegations surrounding a past relationship, presumably from her marriage to Ethan Plath. Olivia and Ethan’s marriage was featured prominently on the TLC reality show about a family of nine kids and their overprotective parents who lived on a family farm in Georgia.Ethan, the eldest son, married Oliviawhen they were both in their early 20s, as is common in some conservative households.
Ethan and Olivia’s marriage unraveledover the course of six seasons, and they divorced in 2023. The young couple couldn’t overcome major hurdles like political differences and interference from Ethan’s family. Since their split, bothEthan and Olivia have moved onand gotten into new relationships, but questions still linger about the inner workings of their marriage.
Olivia took to social media recently with someconcerning allegations about a former partner. While she never directly names Ethan, it seems likely she’s referring to her marriage to him. Olivia claimed that she’s opening up about what she now calls domestic abuse because she hopes it will help other women who might be in similar relationships where there aren’t physical signs of abuse, but the relationship can still be classified as “abusive.”

Oliviashared a Reel to her Instagram on March 27 as a follow-up to a post she made on March 25 in which she said that people assumed they knew everything about her marriage since it was filmed for reality television, but thatthere were darker things going on behind closed doors. In the March 25 post,Oliviawrote, “Many people assume that because my relationship was on tv, they know all of the details of what happened - even behind closed doors when cameras were not around. They can’t fathom that maybe systems, networks or individuals would hide extremely problematic behavior so that they aren’t cancelled. They also can’t fathom that maybe I didn’t or don’t have the power or legal clearance to expose or even tell the unfiltered truth about what I experienced, unfortunately.” Olivia didn’t make any further allegations in her original post, but she felt called to expand on it in her second Reel, this time, making direct allegations.
“He threatened to shoot my friends, that he called out by name, that he thought were influencing me to be more liberal and open-minded. The morning we broke up, he told me he was buying guns to restore order. Later, he told me he never bought guns, he just said that to scare me.”
Olivia’s claims that her former partner made physical threats to her friends is very disturbing and, if proven true, could be considered a form of abuse. In terms of his threats to purchase guns, that’s also abusive if it happened - she added that he later said that just to scare her. It’s noteworthy that Olivia alleged that her former partner specifically threatened harm to her friends, whom he thought were bad influences on Olivia, since their political differences were a major factor in their divorce.
It’s important to note that theDomestic Violence National Hotlinedefines abuse as “a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship.” Their definition makes it clear that although there might not be physical harm,controlling behavior is also classified as abuse. Based on Olivia’s allegations, her relationship fell into the abuse category.

In another portion of the video, Olivia detailed that her former partner would make himself “physically threatening” by slamming furniture around. This is in line with her claims that while she was never left with bruises, the behavior was still “threatening” and therefore abusive. Olivia also claimed that she waited to meet with him until cameras were present for her own safety.
People saw half of this on TV when I went back to Minnesota to get divorce papers signed, when he slammed a chair into the bar, which, he slammed things like that and made himself very physically threatening a lot, but what was cut out and didn’t make it was him looking me in the eye and saying very low and very calm, ‘Be very careful what you say,’ to which I said, ‘Peace out.’ I’m not okay with being threatened. I made sure I was meeting with him when there was cameras there for a reason.
Olivia’s allegations that Ethan’s dark side was cut from the show is a criticism of the network and the show’s producers. If true,this could be seen as protecting an abuser, which the network will no doubt vehemently deny. Olivia mentioned previously that she was still navigating through legalities and NDAs, which will most likely come into play should the situation escalate.

In Olivia’s words, her former partner took the doors off the hinges and refused to let her be alone after their fight.
One time in Italy, when I removed myself from an argument where he was cussing me out and was drunk, he took the door off the hinges angrily and refused to let me be by myself in a room.

Olivia got into more detail in her Reel about traveling internationally with her former partner and the dangerous circumstances she was left in. She claimed that she was left “stranded” without a key to their hotel or cell service. She claimed her partner never checked in with her to see if she was safe. Again, problematic behavior, and if that happened, it’s indicative of a relationship that was not safe.

In the caption of her original post, Olivia wrote that her former partner drove recklessly with her in the vehicle.
Also - driving erratically and dangerously and refusing to let me leave the vehicle … all while previously he flipped a car I was in because he was out of control as the driver and we landed upside down in a ditch in a crushed car.
