Summary

Here are all theStar Warsreveals we’re expecting - or, at the least, hoping for - at this year’s D23.Star Warslargely sat this year’s SDCC out (with the exception of a thrilling Lucasfilm Publishing panel that announced a range oftie-ins and spinoffs forThe Acolyte). Fortunately, that’s not going to be the case with this year’s D23. Lucasfilm has teased a massive presence, and the full schedule looks thrilling.

The officialStar Warswebsite has promised “exclusive new content,” which means attendees are eagerly awaiting news, trailers, and clips. No doubt many of these will be released online, but Screen Rant will be there at D23 - with theStar Warsteam’s very own Kevin Erdmann passing on detailed descriptions of any footage that remains in-house. Below are the most exciting panels, with a link to the fullStar Warsschedule. But what do we expect Lucasfilm to reveal?

Star Wars D23 2024 Schedule Announced By Lucasfilm, Promises “Exclusive New Content”

Lucasfilm has announced its schedule for D23 2024, and it teased some exclusive new content, a chance to meet Star Wars icons, and more.

6We Think There’s Going To Be Some Mandalorian Movie News

But don’t expect Pedro Pascal to show up

The Disney Entertainment Showcase is mostly expected to focus on the Disney+ TV shows (explaining why these weren’t discussed at SDCC a couple of weeks ago). That said, in the past there have been some movie announcements too, and the time is ripe for news onThe Mandalorian & Grogu. TheupcomingStar Warsmoviewill bring Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and the delightful Grogu to the big screen, and filming is about to begin, with some believing Pedro Pascal has already filmed his scenes and even recorded dialogue.

Din Djarin and Grogu have both featured prominently in marketing for D23, raising hopes there’ll be some news here - if only confirmation of when filming will begin. But don’t expect Pedro Pascal himself to make an appearance, because he’s back in the U.K. to filmFantastic Four, where he plays Reed Richards himself. He was at D23, along with the rest of the main cast, but now he surely needs to get on with filming.

5Will Star Wars Push Back Two Movies?

There could be more delays

Lucasfilm has developed something of a reputation for delays, but right now it really does feel as though two projects should be pushed back. The Mandalorian & Groguis due to release in direct competition withAvengers: Doomsdayin May 2026, and that didn’t feel sensible even before Robert Downey, Jr.’s return was announced. Meanwhile, Rey’s mysterious New Jedi Order movie doesn’t even have a script, making it feel as though it should be pushed back from its December 2026 slot.

It seems odd to suggest delays could be announced at D23, given they’re hardly cause for celebration. But these delaysaresensible, and could easily be spun. A 2027 release date for Rey’s movie would be perfectly timed, becauseit would effectively relaunch the entire Jedi Order in the 50th anniversary year ofStar Wars. Frankly, it’s always bewildered the Screen Rant team that such a celebration wasn’t the plan from the beginning.

4It’s Time For A Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Trailer

The marketing push has begun

Marketing has finally begun for the nextStar WarsDisney+ TV show, Jon Watts’Skeleton Crew. Due to launch on early December 3, this promises to be a family-focused drama in which a bunch of kids from an earth-like planet find themselves wandering theStar Warsgalaxy; perfect Christmas fare. The time is surely right for aStar Wars: Skeleton Crewtrailer, and it wouldn’t be too surprising if Lucasfilm dropped some footage at D23 as well.

The upcoming live-action TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, looks to be a fascinatingly unique Disney+ show. Here’s what’s known about it so far.

3Will Lucasfilm Announce The Acolyte Season 2?

Manny Jacinto’s panel would be the perfect chance

We all know how controversialThe Acolytewas, but all the evidence suggests performance was satisfactory although not stellar. The announcements at Lucasfilm Publishing’s SDCC panel seemed to makeThe Acolyteseason 2inevitable, and recent tweets from theStar WarsTwitter account referred to the show’s “first season.” All that means fans ofThe Acolyteare hoping Manny Jacinto’s Saturday panel won’t simply be a retrospective, but will instead include an official announcement.

2Will There Be News On Ahsoka Season 2?

The time seems right

Lucasfilm’s upcoming TV slate is something of a mystery right now. There have been recent reports Disney has pushed Marvel to cut down their live-action releases to two shows a year, and all the evidence suggests the same is true of Lucasfilm. For all that’s the case, though, surprisingly little is known aboutStar WarsTV in 2025. This will see the release ofAndorseason 2… but what then?Ahsokaseason 2 is confirmed to be happening at some point, butthat would need to start filming very soon if it’s to make a 2025 release.

This means D23 would be a great place to drop someAhsokaseason 2 news. At the very least, it’s possible Lucasfilm will announce what they’re doing with the character of Baylan Skoll; Ray Stevenson sadly passed away shortly before season 1’s release, and there’s been intense debate over whether the dark Jedi should be recast. Personally, most here at Screen Rant think the character should be, in honor of Stevenson’s phenomenal work. Perhaps there’ll be a casting announcement?

1Will There Be A New Star Wars Animation Announcement?

It’s surely time for one

Star Wars: The Bad Batchhas ended, meaning the future ofStar Warsanimation is just as up in the air. Our friends at Star Wars News Net are hoping forTales of the Jediseason 2, but personally I feel that was replaced byTales of the Empire, and isn’t going to happen (expect anotherTalesin a couple of years). More likely is some mention ofStar Wars: Visionsseason 3, because Lucasfilm seem to have settled into a bi-annual pattern for that fantastic show, and season 3 would be perfect for Star Wars Day 2025.

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm Animation is known to have started hiring teams for an unknown future project. It’s quite possible Lucasfilm will use Sunday’s animation panel to reveal just whatThe Bad Batch’s replacement really is, meaning that particular panel is unmissable. Will the story of Cody and Rex’s clone uprising against the Empire finally be told? Or willStar Warsinstead announce something brand new? We’ll hopefully find out on Sunday - and Screen Rant will be here to pass on the news!
