Gohan Gives up Being Great Saiyaman in Homage toThe Amazing Spider-Man #50
Fanart Design by Anime Empire (@animeempirestudios)
An issue released over five decades ago in 1967,The Amazing Spider-Man #50, by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., kicked off the three-part “Spider-Man No More!” story, which saw Peter throw away his spandex for good, right as Kingpin, in his comic debut, makes a move on his city. Featuring a larger-than-life Spider-Man looking over his shoulder with his back turned on the cover, Romita adds a resigned Peter Parker walking with his head hung low underneath him, setting the stage for a tale still considered to be one of Spider-Man’s best.
Replicating Romita’s composition right down to the slightly off-centered image, Anime Empire sketches Great Saiyaman with his back turned in full superhero garb, then dresses Gohan in full Peter Parker civilian clothes. Next, changing the “Approved by the Comics Code Authority” seal to read “Approved by the Anime Code Parody,” the “Marvel Comics Group” stamp to “Anime Empire Studios,” and replacing Spider-Man in the top left character box with Great Saiyaman,Anime Empire nails a comic tribute that doubles as a crossover piece, showing what it could be like should Gohan ever decide to stopfighting crime as Great Saiyaman.

New Fanart Replaces Peter Parker and Spider-Man With Gohan and Great Saiyaman
Finally, in a fun change to the title of the issue, Anime Empire replaces “Amazing” with “Great” and then hyphenates “Saiyaman” to “Saiya-Man,” perfectly lining up Spider-Man’s naming convention in a way that places a bow on top of an already stunning piece of art. ThoughDragon Ball’sGohanand Marvel’sSpider-Manare unlikely ever to cross paths in an official capacity, Anime Empire’s (@animeempirestudios) inspired fanart proves that if they ever did, they’d fit right in with one another.

Dragon Ball
From the creative mind of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball is a mega multimedia franchise that spans back to the 1980s. Dragon Ball expanded quickly, starting as a serialized manga for Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan. It made its way overseas via manga and an anime adaptation that is enjoyed worldwide. Dragon Ball was the initial starting animated series that followed the adventures of the young Son Goku as he sought after the Dragon Balls. These mystical orbs would grant the wish of any who gathered them together. Then, the series would branch off into the immensely popular Dragon Ball Z, which followed Goku as an adult and featured high-intensity battles and Goku’s never-ending search to be the strongest. The series has also enjoyed several popular video game adaptations and continues to release several new animated series and theatrical films up to the recent popular Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man is the name given to several individuals who have employed a spider-moniker throughout Marvel Comics. Typically gaining their powers through a bite from a radioactive spider, the different Spider-Man heroes employ super-strength, agility, and intellect while utilizing webbing to swing and tangle up their foes. The most notable of these Spider-Men is Peter Parker, who remains one of the most popular superheroes throughout the world.
