Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #15Dragon Ball Daimarevealed some important details of Dabura’s past in the most recent episode, casting the villain in an even darker light than before. It also reveals that the heroes had a lucky break fighting Dabura, as he could’ve been a far greater threat than he already was.

Dabura was a villain who appeared in the beginning of the Buu Saga, a demon from the Demon Realm under the control of Babidi. It’s never quite made clear just how Dabura fell under Babidi’s spell, but he was already extremely powerful when that happened.Dabura holds the title of having the highest power level everrecorded inDragon Ball Z, coming in at 4,000 kili, or 200,000,000 on the scouter. However, even Dabura’s power was no match for his father Abura when wielding the Third Eye, so Dabura had to find a way to eliminate the Third Eye from the equation.

Dabura takes his place as ruler of the Demon Realm.

Dabura’s Rise to Power Was No Coincidence

Dabura Plotted to Overthrow His Father and Seize Power

In episode #15, it’s revealed that Dabura was plotting a coup against his own father, hoping to take control of the Demon Realm. to do this, Dabura first needed to even the playing field, and thus arranged to have a thief break in and steal the Third Eye, an ancient artifact of enormous power. Dabura had the thieftake the Third Eye to the Third Demon World, but the Thief was killed by a rogue bandit, leaving the Third Eye lost in the wilderness with no way to recover it. Since Dabura only needed to get rid of it, he was still able to execute his plan, killing his father and seizing power.

This proves that Dabura was even more treacherous than he seemed during the Buu Saga; he was willing to do whatever it took to gain absolute power of the Demon Realm, even killing his own father. However, Dabura’s plan ended up costing him a significant degree of power. With the Third Eye lost, Dabura couldn’t use its power to reinforce his position as the ruler of the Demon Realm, and didn’t have its magic-amplifying properties to aid him when he went up against the Z Fighters. Had Dabura been equipped with the Third Eye, the Buu Saga may have gone very differently.

In fact, Dabura might still be ruler of the Demon Realm today if he’d kept the Third Eye. With the Third Eye now recovered and in Gomah’s possession, fans ofDragon Ball Daimamay yet get to see the magic artifact used in battle, revealing its full power, and just how dangerous Dabura could’ve been.
