I lovedDragon Ball DAIMA, but the ending left me missing something I thought might have been a given. It was one of the best entries in the franchise for me, and while a lot of other people were frustrated with the show, I loved it for what it was.DAIMAwas never going to beDragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super,or evenDragon Ball GT.Instead,Dragon Ball DAIMAwas much closer to the originalDragon Ball,showcasing Goku’s adventures and highlighting his hijinks.
WhileDAIMAcertainly put humor above action, that isn’t to say that it didn’t have some of the best fights in the franchise. Goku, Vegeta, and even Majin Duu had some moments that can be added straight toDragon Ball’s highlight reel. While I’ll still defendDAIMAto anyone who says it wasn’t good, there wasone aspect of the show that left me wanting moreas the series concluded.

I’ll say it again: I lovedDragon Ball DAIMA.I loved theDragon Ballfranchise before I even understood what anime was. I grew up watching the Funimation Dub ofDragon Ball Zhere in the States, and there isn’t aDragon BallZ-related video game that I didn’t play. WhileDragon Ball DAIMAhad its shortcomings,I think that it has a lot more positives than negatives.
Dragon Ball DAIMAhas the best animation seen in any entry into theDragon Ballfranchise, full stop. WhileDragon Ball ZandDragon Ball Supermight have some of thebest fights inDragon Ball, even those moments aren’t as well animated asDAIMA’s.Goku’s two Super Saiyan 4 Kamehamehas are jaw-dropping. They’re animated with a ferocity you can feel through the screen, showing his signature ability in a stunning radiance of blues and reds.
DAIMAwas also straightforward in what it wanted to be. One ofDragon Ball GT’sworst aspectswas its desire to copy bothDragon BallandDragon Ball Z.Sure, Goku was transformed into a kid yet again, butDAIMAstill felt like its own thing.DAIMAfocused on the funniest parts ofDragon Ball,and it pulled it off. Goku not being able to pronounce Glorio’s name, Vegeta leaving a fight after Bulma’s surprising threat, and the sheer existence of Majin Duu proved thatDragon Ball DAIMAis the funniest entry in theDragon Ballcanon.
Dragon Ball DAIMA Could Have Done Better At The End
Dragon Ball DAIMA’s Ending Felt Rushed
At only 20 episodes long, it’s not surprising thatDragon Ball DAIMAhad a few moments that felt rushed. The ending might have felt the most hurried out of any aspect of the show, asDAIMAlooked to wrap up a few storylines in just one 20-minute episode. I liked the finale, but I still think thatit could have taken a bit more timewith some of the key parts of the series.
The final battle between Evil Third Eye Gomah and Super Saiyan 4 Goku was the best fight in the entire series. It was such a great moment, it could have had an entire episode dedicated to it. Instead, the show had to finish up their fight, decide on Gomah and Degesu’s fates, and name a new King of the Demon Realm.
Super Saiyan 4 Goku Made An Appearance, But Vegeta Was Left Out
If Neva Helped Goku Get Super Saiyan 4, Why Couldn’t He Help Vegeta?
My biggest gripe withDragon Ball DAIMAis Super Saiyan 4 Vegetaor the lack of it. Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta was easily one of the best moments of the show andVegeta’s second-best moment of his entire character arc(behind his Final Atonement, of course). I wanted Vegeta to obtain Super Saiyan 4 so badly, especially because Goku had achieved it and brought the form back to the canon.
Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 form was a bit confusing as well, as Neva seemed to bring it out of him. Towards the end of the series, however, Goku revealed that he obtained the form on his own while training after fighting Buu. I think that Neva helped Goku get to the form before he was turned back into an adult, either because Goku was too tired after fighting Gomah or because Goku had a hard time getting to the form while in his kid state.

Either way, Neva could have helped Vegeta as well. I think that the main argument would be that Vegeta had never achieved the form on his own like Goku, but who cares? The final battle would have been so much better with Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta. When Vegeta finally brought his Super Saiyan 3 form to the canon, I was elated. Vegeta hadn’t looked that cool in years. He even fought with his hands folded across his chest, looking down on Tamagami Number Two both literally and metaphorically.
I’m more than happy to see Super Saiyan 4 make its way back to the screen, and seeingSuper Saiyan 3 Vegetawas a treat too, but I can’t help but wish that Vegeta got to achieve the same heights as Goku. Maybe that’s just me being a Vegeta fan to my core, but that’s alright. The Prince of Saiyans deserves some fans too.
Dragon Ball DAIMA Is Still An Excellent Series

I don’t want to complain too much:Dragon Ball DAIMAis still a great series andwill go down in history as an excellent entry into theDragon Ballcanon. We don’t know ifDragon Ball DAIMAwill get a season 2, but even if it doesn’t, the first season left us with plenty of great moments. Goku’s Kamehameha that tore a hole through Gomah and several Demon Realms, Vegeta’s nonchalant onslaught of the Gendarmie Force, and the giants of the Demon Realm will always be some of the most entertaining moments in not justDAIMAbut the entireDragon Ballfranchise.
