Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #5
Quick Links
Dragon Ball Daimaepisode #5, “Panzy,” was dedicated to introducing the series' newest heroine, who already made waves in the last episode in her disguise as the Masked Majin. Panzy had more reveals up her sleeve, however, and these new facts about her have already changed things majorly for Goku and his group.
After Goku saved the Masked Majin in episode #4, following a failed attempt atbattling Gomah’s goons, she followed them and unmasked herself, hoping to learn more about her savior. The group was in a bit of a hurry and didn’t feel like humoring her, but Panzy tagged along anyway, asking questions all the way. She was able to help lead them down a shortcut towards the Third Demon World’s Kadan Castle, where Glorio expected their paths would finally part. However, that’s when it was revealed that Panzy is actually a princess, and was welcomed into the castle.

Who is Panzy? Daima’s Newest Character Brings Big Changes
Panzy’s Introduction Marks a Turning Point in Daima
The first thing that fans learn about Panzy is without a doubt her bravery, as she was willing to face down Gomah’s Gendarmerie alone, all in the name of fighting back against oppression. It’s certainly an effective way to endear a character to the audience quickly, and it also emphasizes her spunky nature, as she’s clearly acting in this capacity in secret. While Panzy may have been in trouble if Goku hadn’t been there to help out, that does nothing to diminish the courage that she put on display.
As Panzy travels with Goku and his group, she asks them a lot of questions, but also does her fair share of answering questions, unlike Glorio. Panzy proves that she has some ability with magic, something that could come in quite handy in the future. She also reveals that she has some talent with tinkering with machines, an ability that’s sorely missing from Goku’s group at the moment, since they had to leave without Bulma. Panzy then reveals the most shocking information of all, that she’s actually the daughter of the Third Demon World’s King, and ensures they get into the castle with ease.

Panzy fits pretty neatly into the character archetype of the rogue princess, a subversion of the typical princess who is always in need of rescue. She not only seems to actively seek out excitement and adventure, but is also shown to actually care for the plight of her people, going undercover as the Masked Majin in order to fight back against the injustices they face. Of course, she does all this without her father’s knowledge or permission. She does seem to have some slightly bratty tendencies, and seems accustomed to getting her way, as evidenced by the amount of luggage she has brought with her.
What Panzy Has to Offer Goku’s Group
Panzy Could Be a Valuable Asset to Goku
Panzy could prove to be quite handy to have around, and in more ways than one. Her mechanical and technological knowledge is obviously going to come in handy, at least until Bulma arrives, and she’s proven with her bomb-making ability that this knowledge can be weaponized. Panzy’s role as a princess could also be valuable to rely upon, potentially getting Goku and his group through difficult situations. Her magical ability, and at least familiarity with it, could also be quite an asset, if magic is truly as common in this world as she made it seem.
On the other hand, Panzy’s courage and conviction could also get the group into trouble.Panzy may have a hard time holding back if she sees people being mistreated, which seems to be very common in the Demon Realm, and that could blow the group’s cover very easily. Goku is already bad enough in this regard, so the two could easily get into a lot of trouble together. Panzy also gives off the vibe that she’s not likely to take direction well, which may especially be a problem withher butting heads with Glorio already.

Episode #5 Featured Excellent Elements Besides Panzy
The Series' Animation and World-building Continue to Impress
While Panzy was the main focus of the episode, there are plenty of other noteworthy features that should be mentioned. The animation in this episode, like the previous ones, was absolutely top-notch; Goku’s fight sequence with the Third Demon World King’s men was excellent, and featured some fantastic fight choreography that really takes advantage of Goku’s current size and situation. His use of Super Saiyan was a welcome surprise, assuring fans that his power is as great as it ever was. The episode was well-paced also, and built up Panzy plenty before revealing her role as a princess.
The world-building going onin the Demon Realmwas also on point, just like in prior episodes. It established a number of key facts, such as the average lifespan of a Demon Realm majin, the powers that majin wield, such as magic, and helped further clarify and emphasize the leadership structure that the Demon Realm has. It raises new questions as well–if all majin wield magic, what kind of magic is Glorio capable of using? Could this perhaps explain how he was able to fly without knowing about Ki?
Panzy’s addition to the gang is definitely going to change up the group dynamic quite a bit, introducing a chaotic element, which is likely to be a good thing overall.More importantly, though, the core cast ofDaimahas now been assembled, and every major character that fans knew about before the start of the series has now been met. That means all the pieces are finally in place to kick the plot into high gear. With 20 episodes planned forDaima, the series is now about a quarter of the way through, so it’s time to start getting serious about dealing with Gomah and the Tamagami.Dragon Ball Daimais off to a very promising start, and with Panzy on board, it looks like things are only going to get better.
