It offers players a compelling narrative oozing with a creepy atmosphere from start to finish, much to the delight of dedicated fans and newcomers. However, those who playedSilent Hill 2all the way back in 2001 on the Xbox, or later with the Greatest Hits version, may be wondering whether Maria’s side story,Born From a Wish, is included in the remake.

TheSilent Hill 2 remakehas many amazing qualities, from its stunning visuals to the faithful recreation of the core narrative, so it’s no surprise that fans want to see more of it.Born From a Wishwas a key part of the re-released package, and served as an excellent - albeit very confusing - way of fleshing out Maria’s character further. However, it wasn’t mentioned in any of the marketing material for the remake, so fans have been left a little in the dark.

What Is Born From A Wish?

It Is A Free Side Story About Maria

Born From a Wishis a sub-scenario - essentially a free side story - that was added to the Xbox version ofSilent Hill 2back in 2001. It was included in the PC port of the game, which launched in 2002, and later packaged into the re-release ofSilent Hill 2on the PlayStation 2 as the Greatest Hits version.Born From a Wishfocuses on Maria before she meets James in Silent Hill, and ends when they meet in the park.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Is Hiding The Best Reference To The Doomed Silent Hill HD Collection

An Easter egg discovered in Silent Hill 2 Remake shows that Bloober Team understand what the stakes are, and has a sense of humor about it.

It served as an interesting insight into what Maria was doing during the early events ofSilent Hill 2as James wanders around the fog-filled Silent Hill. It starts with her contemplating her own suicide before venturing out into Silent Hill in search of other people. This leads her to the mansion of a mysterious man named Ernest Baldwin, who has locked himself in a room. Maria never sees him, only speaking to him through the locked door, but she slowly uncovers the truth about him and his backstory.

Eventually, Maria manages to get inside Ernest’s room, only to find it completely empty, begging the question of who he was in the first place. Alone, she decides to leave the mansion in search of James. The sub-story only lasts a handful of hours, but it is generally fondly remembered by the communityas an important part of Maria’s journey throughout the game.

Can You Access Born From A Wish In Silent Hill 2 Remake?

It Is Currently Unavailable

Unfortunately,Born From a Wishis not included in the newSilent Hill 2, which is just one of the manymany changes and additions made. It isn’t unlocked after beating the game, nor is it available at the start like in the Greatest Hits versions. Bloober Team did not recreate the Born From a Wish sub-story at all that is publically known, which is unfortunate for those who were hoping to replay it in the remake.

However, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make an appearance at all, asplayers can unlock a reference to it if they hunt down an optional piece of dialogue. James and Maria can head to a location in Silent Hill that resembles the Baldwin Mansion, and, once they’ve reached it, Maria will comment on how it feels familiar and as if she’s been there before. Of course, the trade-off for not having it in the game isSilent Hill 2 Remake’snew endingsand the plethora of other new content found in the game.

This may be disappointing to fans ofBorn From a Wish, but perhaps not all that surprising. So much time and effort would have gone into recreating the base game and adding new content, soBloober Team likely didn’t have time to addBorn From a Wishas well. Of course, it’s altogether possible thatBorn From a Wishwill appear in some form later down the line, especially as Bloober Team has teased it’s continuing its partnership with Konami.

Born From A Wish Is Possible In Future DLC

Much Like Resident Evil 4’s Separate Ways

It is very possible that Bloober Team is planning on releasing an expanded version ofBorn From a Wishas DLC. Of course, this is what happened withResident Evil 4 Remake’sThe Separate WaysDLC, which took theSeparate Waysmode from the original and remade it as an expansion. While it isn’t guaranteed, and Bloober Team has not confirmed its existence, considering how well theSilent Hill 2 Remakeis doing, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some form of DLC.

Fans would definitely like to see theBorn From a Wishsub-story expanded and remade, and newcomers who discovered the brilliance ofSilent Hill 2will definitely want to experience its somber story. It remains to be seen whether Bloober Team pour resources into making it or skip straight to anotherSilent Hillremake. However, while it may be wishful thinking, it would definitely be great to seeSilent Hill 2 Remakecompleted with theBorn From a Wishexpansion.
