One ofDemon Slayer’sbest characteristics is its thorough, detailed character development. There are no boring or lackluster characters;every single hero and villain has a unique, interesting design and personality that makes each of them memorablelong after fans have finished watching.

However, not every character is given equal screentime, and it is a shame, because some of the best characters only appear for a few manga panels. Compared to some other shonen mangas likeMy Hero Academia,Demon Slayeris pretty short, and the series' most underutilized characters represent some of the series' worst wasted opportunities.

Yoriichi, Rengoku, and Muzan in Demon Slayer

8Nakime

Nakime Is One of the Strongest Upper Moons With a Creative Musical Power

One of Muzan’s demons, Nakime, remains one ofDemon Slayer’smost puzzling mysteries, which is a shame, because she is also one of the most fascinating demons in the entire series. With her trusty biwa in hand, the Upper Rank Four demon can transport people or demons to a new location instantlysimply by strumming her musical instrument to teleport herself and others. Her powers are invaluable to Muzan and his mission. Nakime certainly deserves more time in the spotlight to show off her skills and personality though, because she is more than one of Muzan’s henchmen.

15 Strongest Demon Slayer Characters Of All Time, Ranked

Demon Slayer is filled with both horrific villains and courageous heroes, who show off their impressive powers during action-packed battles.

Nakime is one of the quietest and most reserved demons, so she often blends into the background around larger personalities like Doma or Akaza. She is not any less interesting than her fellow Upper Rank demons though, and possesses one of the coolest sets of powers inDemon Slayer.Nakime was ultimately killed by Muzanhimself though, taking her out of the story before viewers could learn everything about the puzzling demon.

Mitsuri Kanroji from Demon Slayer

7Yoriichi Tsugikuni

Yoriichi Is a Phenomenal Example for Demon Slayers Everywhere With a Legacy That Survives Years After Death

Yoriichi Tsugikuni is called the strongest demon slayerof all time for good reason. The powerhouse hero invented Breathing Styles, and generations of demon slayers follow in his footsteps years after his death. Despite Yoriichi’s tremendous influence on the demon slaying profession, his appearances in the story are extremely scare.

Demon Slayertakes place after Yoriichi’s death, sohe only shows up during rare flashbacks and memories.Even after his demise, Yoriichi offers inspiration to Tanjiro and other demon slayers who fight to avenge his death at the hands of the demon, Kokushibo, who was actually his brother.Demon Slayerdefinitely could have benefited from featuring Yoriichi more in the story though, since he saved countless lives on his own and exemplified every quality a great demon slayer should have: kindness, care for others, and boundless strength.

6Mitsuri Kanroji

Mitsuri’s Joy Is Infectious and Just What Is Needed To Brighten Up Demon Slayer’s Oftentimes Dark Premise

Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira, is among the bubbliest and kindest ofDemon Slayer’sHashira, with a radiant joy for life that is infectious to everyone she meets. She is not just a cheerful heroine though,Mitsuri possesses eight times the muscle strength of an average person, making her capable of cutting down even the most dangerous demons.

10 Surprising Facts About Demon Slayer’s Love Hashira Mitsuri

Demon Slayer’s iconic Love Hashira, Mitsuri, is one of the series' most interesting characters, and there are many little-known facts about her.

She played a pretty substantial role in the To the Swordsmith Village arc, where her past was revealed, but these scenes only made fans crave more of her presence. Her positivity and charisma are much needed in a series that contains so many doom and gloom scenesof death and despair, and viewers would certainly smile a lot more while watchingDemon Slayerif the series included a lot more iconic Mitsuri moments.

5Gyomei Himejima

As the Strongest Hashira, Gyomei Should Have Received More Growth and Time in the Spotlight

Gyomei Himejima was confirmed to be thestrongest of all ofDemon Slayer’sHashira, but he is also the most humble, despite being so overpowered. Like so many other characters, Gyomei’s past was very difficult, but he made a name for himself despite the heartbreaking circumstances and terrifying demon encounters. He is less outspoken compared to other demon slayers, but in so many situations,Gyomei’s brave actions speak louder than his words ever could.

His feats of strength, like pushing a massive boulder as if it weighs nothing, are some of the most impressive scenes in the entire series, andmore of these moments would have been a true treat to witness.Gyomei receives less character development than some of the other Hashira, but as the strongest, his lack of screentime is a missed chance.

4All Three Kocho Sisters (Kanae, Kanao, Shinobu)

The Iconic Sister Trio Possess Strengths That Should Have Been Showcased Before Their Battle With Doma

Move aside, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke - because the Kocho sisters might just have them beat asDemon Slayer’smost heartwarming, tight-knit trio. These three sisters were unfortunately pulled apart by heartwrenching tragedy when the oldest sibling, Kanae, was killed by Doma, the Upper Rank Two demon, leaving the other two sisters to avenge her death.Kanae died beforeDemon Slayereven began, which caused her to receive very little screentime.

The other two Kocho sisters also too often fade into the background, since Kanao is fairly reserved and not a Hashira, and Shinobu spends much of her time concocting a deadly poison to kill Muzan rather than standing at the forefront of demon battles like her fellow Hashira. All three sisters are interesting, with their own distinctive strengths and talents that have earned them places in the Demon Slayer Corps, so it would have been extremely fascinating to see not only the loving bond between the sisters, but all of their strengths on an individual level.TheInfinity Castle fight between Doma, Kanao, Shinobu, and Inosuke is one of the series' most exciting battles, but it also makes viewers wish these iconic sisters had more development before this pivotal scene.

3Doma

Doma Does Not Play a Major Role Until Very Late in Demon Slayer, Even Though He’s One of the Best Villains

Doma is one of the most underrated of the Twelve Kizuki, because his charismatic attitude sometimes causes viewers to overlook how truly twisted and wicked of a character he is. As a cult leader, Doma is an expert at appearing friendly and respectable, but once he lures innocent followers into his trap, he consumes them before they have a chance of escaping. He isone of the most powerful Upper Rank demons, but unfortunately,he does not appear in the story much until the final few arcs.

Doma was introduced briefly in an earlier season of the anime, but he does not play a major part until almost the end ofDemon Slayer. From his intimidating Blood Demon Art to his deceptively silly personality that masks his true evil nature, there are so many aspects of Doma’s character that should be explored more.Although he is one of the final arc’s best villains, Doma should have starred in even more chapters ofDemon Slayer.

2Akaza

Akaza Is One of the Stars of the Mugen Train Arc, Proving Why He Deserves a More Prominent Role in the Story

Akaza is different from the other Upper Rank demons in a lot of ways, and this makes him unique. He never wanted to be a demon and, despite becoming evil and murderous, he has strict rules for himself that no other demons follow, such as not killing women. Histragic backstory of loss and sufferingexplains some of these puzzling aspects of his personality, and in another life, perhaps Akaza would have been a hero instead.

Only One Demon Slayer Villain Was Truly Worthy of Tanjiro’s Mercy

Akaza is most deserving of Tanjiro’s piety due to his morals, devastating past, and the fact that he was never truly evil.

Through his battle with Rengoku and his irritated interactions with Doma, it is obvious that Akaza is a dynamic, animated character. He is one of the stars of the iconic Mugen Train arc,and that section of the story would not be nearly as amazing without his role in the climactic battle. Every scene Akaza is in becomes more tense and attention-grabbing immediately, andDemon Slayerwould surely be more thrilling if the Upper Rank Three demon played a more prominent role.

1Obanai Iguro

Obanai Is a Tragic but Interesting Hero, and His Stories Could Fill an Entire Spin-off Series

If anyDemon Slayercharacter deserves more screentime, it is undoubtedly Obanai Iguro, the quietest but most intriguing of the Hashira. Because of his traumatic and pain-filled past, Obanai is understandably hesitant to speak up or form close relationships with others, but deep down, he is incredibly caring, thoughtful, and strong. One of the only people he allows himself to be vulnerable with is Mitsuri Kanroji, who he develops the beginnings of a romantic bond with.

Out of all ofDemon Slayer’scharacters, Obanai is one of the most private and reclusive, leaving a lot of details of his life a complete mystery. Seeing him gradually lower his guard and show his authentic self around Mitsuri is truly touching, but they both unfortunately died in battle before their romance could really take off.Demon Slayer’sstory only scratches the surface of everything Obanai has experienced, and there is no denying that the Serpent Hashira deserves his own spin-off to elaborate on these questions fans have about him.
