As tensions rose in Tokyo, Oba took another dive into Oran’s memories to find a way to save everyone. There, Oba found a memory where Isobeyan talked about how if he hadn’t met Kadode and Oran, he would have tricked his people into coming to Earth and rigged the mothership to explode to spite both parties. However, because this Isobeyan wasn’t as bitter as the one in the current timeline,Isobeyan revealed the password for fixing the mothership’s engine to anyone who might be watching him in a parallel timeline, so Oba now had the means to save the world.

As Japan dealt with the fallout of the Ocean, the Youth United Front, now in control of the Plankton AI, announced their plans to use SES’ robot technology to take over Japan under the name New Japan Harmony, the name they went by in the prologue. Throughout some of the most recent episodes, theDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionanime has been slowly revealing more information about what the invaders’ intentions were for Earth, with one episode even mentioning that they planned on using humans as slaves. Episode #15, of course, finally revealed the true nature of the invasion:the invaders were sent to Earth merely as an excuse to deal with an overpopulation crisis in their homeworld.

A major theme of the story, whichearned praise even from legendary director Makoto Shinkai, has always been its cutting social satire, most notably in how it portrays governments as being inherently selfish and more than willing to throw the people they’re supposed to protect to the wolves, soDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction’s alien invasion just being an excuse for population controlperfectly ties into the selfish nature of government officials. It also adds a deep level of irony to the patriotic fervor of the invaders, and overall, it’s a great reveal for such a late stage of the story.
Between its excellent escalation in drama and how much work is being done to close out certain character arcs, most notably Oba’s,Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #15 does a great job of building up to the climax of the story, with every aspect of the writing and direction perfectly building into the ever-increasingly tense atmosphere. The final act ofDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionhas everything going for it to be a great one, and with any luck, it will more than stick the landing.
