Jakita Wagner Is DC’s Newest Big Bad

Jakita’s Desire to Return Home Seperates Her From Darkseid

The imminent destruction of the DC Universe is but the latest development in the saga ofThe Outsiders. In a previous issue, Jakita Wagner, the last survivor of the original Wildstorm Universe, discovered “the Cannon,” a massive, god-level weapon with the power to destroy “fundamental concepts.” A metaphor for the idea of “canon,” this weapon has now fallen into the hands of Jakita Wagner. The daughter of Elijah Snow, Jakita Wagner was a member of the Planetary team. When Doctor Manhattan reorganized the DC Universe, creating the New 52, Wagner found herself without a universe to call home.

This desire to return to the Wildstorm Universe is what is driving DC’s new god-level villain, and it helps distinguish her from Darkseid. Wagner’s reasons for destroying the universe are far more sympathetic than any of Darkseid’s plans. Darkseid simply seeks to control and subjugate other lifeforms, and hisrelentless pursuit of the Anti-Life Equationis a means to do so. Wagner feels that firing the Cannon into the Snowflake will return her home. Whether it does remain to be seen, but if Wagner is wrong, she has potentially cheated herself out of any return home.

Jakita Wagner Is Outclassing Darkseid

Will She Restore the Wildstorm Universe? Or Will She Destroy All Reality?

InThe Outsiders#10, Jakita Wagner is ready to outclass Darkseid himself. Darkseid’s plans of conquest are often multipronged and can take time. Darkseid is immortal, so he has all the time in the world. Wagner is far less powerful but far more reckless, and with less time on her hands, needs to find a more direct way to restore the Wildstorm Universe. For all of his evil, and for all of his power, Darkseid has never sought to destroy reality in one swoop. Jakita Wagner, outside the gate, has already outdoneDarkseid, making him look weak in comparison.
