Trigger Warning: This article contains discussions of miscarriage and infant loss.
Outlanderseason 8 will have to answer precisely how Faith Fraser was able to survive, but Claire herself may be at the center of this mystery. The ending of season 7 saw Claire come to the conclusion that Fanny Pocock’s mother, Faith, is her own daughter. Of course, the primary problem here is that Claire’s daughter was stillborn. The only possible way Faith Fraser could have survived infancy is through magic, and Master Raymond seems to be the most logical explanation. However, it’s unclear why thisOutlandercharacter would heal Faith but not return the baby to her mother.

Master Raymond proved that he could magically heal back inOutlanderseason 2. When Claire had her miscarriage, a piece of the placenta remained trapped in her uterus, festering. It seemed to all that Claire would surely die from the infection, but Master Raymond appeared in the middle of the night and magically healed her. After the mysterious man came to Claire in a dream inOutlanderseason 7, it seemed to be implied thatMaster Raymondhad also healed Faith. However, it could be instead thatanother ofOutlander’s magical healers is responsible for the infant’s resurrection.
Claire Could Go Back In Time & Save Her Baby In Outlander Season 8
This May Be How Claire Fully Realizes Her Healing Power
Claire has come to believe inOutlanderthat her daughter Faith had somehow lived. Signs seem to point to Fanny’s mother, Faith Pocock, being a grown version of Claire and Jamie’s first daughter since she had somehow known the 20th-century song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside.” Going intoOutlanderseason 8, Claire will surely begin a journey to find answers—though this may not be so easy. Unless Master Raymond makes a return appearance,Claire must take matters into her own hands to discover precisely what happened to Faith.
Claire is a time traveler, and though she hasn’t mastered the craft, she technically can go back in time to the day Faith was born. If she were to determine that this is the only way to know what happened to Faith inOutlanderseason 8, things could get deeply exciting for the romantacy series. Perhaps Claire will find little Faith precisely as she last saw her and think, for a moment, that she was wrong about the baby having survived. However, since Claire has the magical ability to heal, she herself could be the one to resurrect her daughter.

Claire & Jamie Could Have Been The Ones To Raise Faith Fraser Afterall
Claire Would Have To Bring Baby Faith Back To 1779
If Claire goes back in time, travels to France, and heals her deceased daughter, she wouldn’t be able to simply leave the baby with her younger self. For starters, King Louis XV was on a literal witch hunt inOutlanderseason 2. The nuns of L’Hôpital des Anges would surely be alarmed if a dead baby came back to life, and it’s unlikely that the younger version of Claire would simply be able to leave with her daughter. What’s more, we already know that this didn’t happen. Claire and Jamie left France without Faith, andOutlanderhas consistently proven that the past can’t actually be changed.
Whenever characters inOutlandertry to change the past, they only ever ensure it, creating a classic time-travel paradox. If Claire goes back and heals Faith, then it would ultimately be revealed that this is what happened all along.

Instead, Claire may decide to bring the newly resurrected Faith back through the stones to 1779. This would surely be a heartbreaking decision, but it would be the only way to ensure that Faith stayed safe and that she would be raised by her own parents.Jamie and Clairecould then raise the infant on Fraser’s Ridge. Interestingly, they will also be caring for Fanny, Faith’s daughter, who would be, for a time, older than her own mother. It would be a mind-bending paradox, but this is precisely the sort of thing thatOutlanderis known for.
This Paradox Would Be A Far Less Heartbreaking Answer To Faith’s Outlander Survival
Master Raymond Keeping Faith From Claire Is A Darker Solution
The most tragic thing about theOutlanderseason 7 reveal that Faithmight have lived is that Jamie and Claire continued on with their lives never knowing that their daughter was alive out there somewhere. It shines a rather negative light on Master Raymond, who is implied to have resurrected Faith but denied Claire the chance to raise her daughter.Claire herself making the decision to take Faith through the stones would alleviate the tragedyof this. Though it’s sad that the younger version of Claire had to believe her daughter was dead, at least the older version gets to raise her.
It also seems that Faith is destined to die sometime after Fanny’s birth, implying that Claire and Jamie will have to say goodbye to their daughter all over again—this time for good.
Of course, there is still a bittersweet element to all of this. If Faith grows up on Fraser’s Ridge with her family, she would still be destined to go back through the stones to the past. After all, Faith will have to give birth to Jane sometime in the 1760s so that her daughter can meet William in 1778. It also seems that Faith is destined to die sometime after Fanny’s birth, implying that Claire and Jamie will have to say goodbye to their daughter all over again—this time for good. Still, if Claire truly is the one to save Faith inOutlanderseason 8,the Fraser family would at least have some years of happiness together.
