Bringing his tenure as the MCU’s inaugural movie hero to a close after sacrificing himself inAvengers: Endgamewith an Infinity Stone-powered gauntlet, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, was given a tearful sendoff in the daysfollowing Thanos’ defeat, with Steve Rogers aka Captain America, never truly getting to say his piece onscreen.

The Ultimates #7- 2024 (Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri)
Following the battle that saw Tony Stark killed after anIron Fist-powered Hulkcrushes him alive, this issue sees a plainclothes Steve Rogers and Jim Hammond throwing one back at an old bar Steve frequented when he was young. Tired and disillusioned by what’s happened recently, the pair mull over what they can toast to now that “new beginnings” aren’t in the cards. First toasting to “all the ones who don’t get saved,”Steve adds, “And to Tony. Who brought us together. We’ll try not to let you down,” saying what he never could to Iron Man in the MCU.
Sorry, Captain America. Cyclops Is the Best Tactician Over at Marvel
Cyclops has been a leader of the X-Men for decades now, with his tactical mind in battle proving he can stand toe-to-toe with even Captain America.
Giving Captain America a real moment, no matter how brief, to acknowledge Tony’s passing is huge, as inAvengers: Endgame,Steve was only part of the funeral attendees atIron Man’s lakeside ceremony, with no eulogy coming from him addressing Tony’s death.Furthermore, with Steve promising that he and the rest of the Ultimates will try their hardest not to let Iron Lad down, Cap can actually make good on that in comics, unlike his MCU counterpart who, shortly after returning all Infinity Stones across the timeline, retired to be with the love of his life and stopped superheroing entirely.

Captain America Will Always Try To Avenge His Friends in Comics and the MCU
Though this Captain America is obviouslynotthe live-actionMCU iteration of the character,Steve Rogers finally getting to express his gratitude and reconfirm his commitment to Tony Stark’s memory and contribution to the superhero community in general is a satisfying momentthat could afford to be revisited and expanded upon in further issues. Yet as revealed at the end of this chapter,Iron Man’s Ultimate universe counterpart is being kept in a healing bath of sorts courtesy of Doom and She-Hulk, so maybeCaptain Americawill finally be able to make his thoughts about Iron Lad known in person.
The Ultimates #7is available from Marvel Comics.
Captain America
Initially debuting in 1940, Captain America is the patriotically themed superhero who has shared the title with only a few individuals. Beginning with Steve Rogers, Captain America’s birth resulted from a frail man taking part in an experimental U.S. Army super-soldier trial, which imbued him with super-human abilities. The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
Iron Man
Anthony “Tony” Edward Stark, AKA Iron Man, is a Marvel Comics superhero who has enjoyed several years of the spotlight and has become a mainstay in several Marvel media franchises. After suffering a critical injury, Tony creates a specialized armored suit powered by an arc reactor, which keeps him alive. Egotistical but good-hearted, Tony utilizes his super intellect and inventions to fight to protect humanity from various threats, eventually becoming a founding member of the Avengers. In 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was kicked off with the film Iron Man, which starred Robert Downey Jr. as the superhero.
