InThe Incredible Hulk #14by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein, the Hulk has trapped Bruce’sconsciousness in the Hulkscape, a realm in the Hulk’s mind. The Hulk, still blinded by rage at his weaker half, torments Banner and keeps him trapped in a world of darkness and violence.
While hiding, a vision of Betty Ross appears to Bruce and warns him that Hulk is going to have Eldest restore Hulk’s sidekick Charlie. The spirit gives Bruce a talon andtells him to mark Eldest’s symbol in his flesh and give up the Hulk for good.
Bruce Must Sacrifice the Hulk and Himself to Save Their Sidekick
Bruce betrayed the Hulkand trapped his alter ego in a mental prison. This blew up in Banner’s face and when the dust settled, the Hulk began looking for a way to take over his and Banner’s shared body for good. Along the way, the two wound up meeting a runaway named Charlie who idolized the Hulk and wanted to be just like him. However, a run-in with a monster trapped Charlie’s soul in a magic figurine and the only way to free her is with a power source in Las Vegas,where the Eldest is waiting for the Hulk.
Of course, the Eldest is manipulating Banner because they want to use the Hulk and unleash the Mother of Horrors onto the world. But Eldest has caught Banner at an opportune time. Right now, Bruce and Hulk’s relationship is at its absolute lowest and Hulk is actively trying to take over their physical form. Worse, Hulk is about to use Eldest’s power to revive Charlie, something that will almost certainly backfire on him. For the first time,Bruce finally has a weapon that could stop the Hulk, but is he willing to use it if it means becoming a puppet?
Bruce Banner Has a Big Choice to Make About the Hulk
Bruce is highly aware that he’s made a lot of mistakes in his life. Now he’s faced with bad and worse options: Allow an innocent teenager to be turned into one of Eldest’s abominations or give the Hulk over to the Eldest and start a new age of horror ruled by monsters. It’s not a great position to be in, but Bruce can’t get Hulk to listen to reason and has no other way of stopping him. Unless something changes, Bruce may do the unthinkable and take drastic measures to stop theHulkfrom giving Charlie over to the Eldest.
