A Working Manis poised to dethroneSnow Whiteat the domestic box office. The former is the newest Jason Statham action movie and sees him reuniting with director David Ayer, who helmed his 2024 hitThe Beekeeper. TheA Working Manreleasecomes during the sophomore weekend ofSnow White, Disney’s live-action remake starring Rachel Zegler in the title role opposite Gal Gadot. Although it opened at No. 1, its $42.2 million debut fell below projections as controversy has swirled around the movie because of its depiction of dwarfism, the stars' opposing views on Israel and Palestine, and more.
PerDeadline, as of Sunday morning,Snow Whiteis projected to earn a 3-day gross of$14.2millionat the domestic box office during its sophomore weekend. This sees it dropping a severe 66%, falling further than the 2019 Disney live-action disappointmentDumbo(-60%) andmost likely relinquishing its No. 1 position on the Top 5 chart for the weekend toA Working Man. Because of this unprecedented influx of new 2025 releases, whileSnow Whitehas merely been pushed down, every other movie that was in the Top 5 the previous weekend has been oustedfrom the chart entirely. The weekend’s previous No. 2 title, the Steven Soderbergh spy thrillerBlack Bag, has fallen to No. 8 with a 3-day total of $2.15 million at a not-terrible week-on-week drop of 50% in its third weekend. The previous weekend’s third-place movie,Marvel’sCaptain America: Brave New World, has held on tighter, landing at No. 7 in week 7 with $2.8 million, dropping just 30%.
Rounding out the chart is the former No. 4, the Jack Quaid action-comedyNovocaine, at No. 10 in week 3 with $1.45 million at a 61% drop, and the former No. 5, the Robert Pattinson sci-fi movieMickey 17, at No. 9 in week 4 with $1.92 million at a 48% drop. While the former No. 2 through No. 5 have remained in the Top 10,they have all been outsold by the re-release of Studio Ghibli’sPrincess Mononoke, which debuted at No. 6 with $4 million.
What This Means For A Working Man
It Is On Track To Be A Solid Success
Even though theSnow Whitebox officeis somewhat compromised by multiple factors, including its 41% Rotten Tomatoes score, the fact thatA Working Mandebut is outdoing a Disney movie is still a remarkable achievement. However, the movie, which is based on the 2014 Chuck Dixon novelLevon’s Tradeand follows a construction worker who uses his skills as a former Royal Marine Commando to try and save his boss' kidnapped daughter, still has a way to climb. Its reported $40 million budget means thatit will likely have to gross $100 million worldwide in order to break even.
Audiences disagree with critics onSnow White, giving it 74% on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter.
Precedent shows thatthe movie should be on track to turn a profit. The Beekeeperopened at about the same level with a $16.6 million debut, and by the end of its theatrical run it had legged out to a global total of $162.6 million. If the new movie hits that same trajectory, it could earn $134.2 million. Additionally, whileA Working Manreviewshave also been mixed to negative likeSnow White’s, earning it a 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences are giving it a glowing 90% Popcornmeter score, so it could become a word-of-mouth success.
Our Take On The Weekend Box Office
The Domestic Box Office Is Slowly Recovering
While neitherA Working MannorSnow Whiteis propping up the box office with their weekend totals, the fact that three other major releases -Death of a Unicorn,The Chosen - Last Supper, andThe Woman in the Yard- are contributing solid grosses have resulted in the overall domestic weekend hitting a total of $79 million total, which is a week-on-week increase of 5% thatsees the box office continuing to recover after hitting a 2025 low over the weekend of March 14. TheupcomingA Minecraft Movie, which debuts on April 4, should continue this upward momentum.
