Apple’s new crime comedy seriesBad Monkeydives deeper into an elaborate insurance fraud scheme in episode 4, titled “Nothing’s Wrong with It, I Just Don’t Need It Anymore.”. Thefirst two episodes ofBad Monkeyshowcase the interwoven narratives of several main characters. Vince Vaughn leads thecast ofBad Monkeyas a former Miami detective trying to get his job back after being demoted to a health inspector.Bad Monkeyis one of the many shows created by prolific television producer Bill Lawrence, whose other works includeTed Lasso(2020-2023),Shrinking(2023- ),Cougar Town(2009-2015), andScrubs(2001-2010).
Scrubsalum Zach Braff makes a guest appearance inBad Monkeyepisode 3as the drug-addled doctor named Israel O’Peele. He becomes a point of interest for Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy and his impromptu sidekick Rosa, a coroner who has taken a similar interest as Yancy in the suspicious death of Nick Stripling. ThroughoutBad Monkeyepisode 3, Yancy tries to piece together the mystery surrounding Eve Stripling’s newly acquired $5 million insurance policy due to her husband Nick’s death.Episode 4 goes back in time to reveal how Nick and Eve planned the extreme insurance scamwith the help of Braff’s Izzy and a local fisherman named Phinney.

The first 4 of 10 episodes ofBad Monkeyare now streaming exclusively on Apple TV+.
The end ofBad Monkeyepisode 4 sees Vince Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy in his worst shape yet. Nick, who had operated under the alias Christopher before revealing that he was alive to his daughter Caitlin at the end of episode 3, shockingly shows up at Yancy’s house and assaults him, knocking him out cold. Nick hit Yancy square in the back of the head with a crowbar in a potentially fatal blow, meaning that theoretically,Yancy could be dead afterBad Monkeyepisode 4. If Yancy is not dead, which he likely isn’t since Vaughn is the series lead, then he will likely be injured pretty badly. The obsessive Nick has killed twice now and will likely show little hesitation in killing again, even if his target is a (former) police detective.

I Should Have Seen Bad Monkey Episode 3’s Big Villain Twist Coming
Bad Monkey’s big mystery just took a huge step toward being solved, and I’m really annoyed I missed the signs relating to the big twist.
Nick Initially Came To Eve With The Idea Of Faking His Death
Nick is revealed to be a victim of his obsession with Eve
Bad Monkeyepisode 4 shows more of Nick’s true character and paints him as a victim of his own obsession with Eve.Nick is head over heels for Eve and promises her the world and moreafter they meet at a Miami strip club several years prior. This quickly leads to a wedding on the beach and a massive expectation over Nick’s head that he will make all of Eve’s dreams come true, even though her career as an actress never panned out.
When his prescription drug scam with Izzy wasn’t pulling in enough funds, Nick desperately thought of faking his own death in order to claim his own insurance policy and essentially pay for Eve’s happiness. Nick was originally just going to cut off two fingers but Eve pushed him to go bigger, resulting in his decision to have his left arm completely removed. His fake prescription scheme wasn’t going to give Eve the lavish life she wanted, so this was his best and quickest option of hanging onto her.

Why Nick Killed Izzy After He Helped Him Fake His Death
Nick chooses to protect his life with Izzy over his best friend
Nick and Izzy are shown to be the best of friends throughoutBad Monkeyepisode 4, which makes Nick’s decision to kill him off even more shocking and tragic. The guilt was eating away at Izzy, especially after he had found out that Phinney had been shot and killed. Phinney and Izzy hung out for a bit after Izzy handed over Nick’s arm to him and paid him to make it seem like he had caught it on a fishing rod out at sea.Izzy had texted Yancy and was about to tell him everythingjust before Nick stopped by his apartment. Nick ultimately chooses to protect his life with Izzy over his best friend.
How Eve Pushed Nick To Go On A Loose End Killing Spree
Nick seems like a good guy at first who is driven to violence by Eve
One of the most surprising revelations inBad Monkeyepisode 4 was just how cold-hearted and psychopathic Eve really is. It’s clear that Nick is nothing but an instrument of violence on her behalf and a means to an end so that she can live a wealthy and luxurious lifestyle. Nick shoots and kills Phinney, the young fisherman who “found” Nick’s arm in the ocean only becauseEve talked him into killing Phinney in the first placeafter Phinney asked for more money.
Nick says several times that he would do anything for her, even murdering a young guy and his own best friend. Eve also shockingly kills “Heather with the Weather” in a parking lot, showing more of her psychopathic mindset and total disregard for human life. Nick seems like a good guy at first who is driven to violence by Eve but starts to catch on to Eve’s maniacal plot whenshe suggests that Nick’s daughter Caitlin might be a loose end.

Where Was Bad Monkey Filmed? Vince Vaughn Show’s Filming Locations Explained
Bad Monkey was filmed entirely in southern Florida, which is also where the new Apple crime series starring Vince Vaughn takes place.
Did Eve Actually Urge Nick To Kill His Daughter Caitlin?
Eve surprises herself by fake crying at a crucial moment
Now that Nick is able to confide in Caitlin, she is now in on his scheme with Eve, which Eve immediately perceives as a threat. She tries to push the idea on Nick that Caitlin may know too much and may become a problem for their whole operation like she did about Phinney and Izzy. Fortunately,Nick finally shows some resolve and resistance to Eve’s villainous thoughts, which forces Eve to miraculously pull off a fake crying stunt. For a moment, it seems like Eve’s tears could have been sincere since a flashback scene to an acting class reveals that she cannot cry on cue. However, Eve was actually serious about getting rid of Caitlin, a task she will likely try to handle herself in future episodes.
Will Mendez Go After Yancy For Izzy’s Murder?
Mendez may try to get revenge on Yancy
Mendez had been introduced as a foe of Yancy’s in a previous episode ofBad Monkeybut episode 4 reveals where their beef had originated. As it turns out, Yancy had caught Mendez in a scheme of his own and reported him to his superiors, which resulted in him losing his opportunity to become a detective for the time being. Years later, Mendez, now a Miami detective, seemed to have zero interest in reopening Izzy’s apparent suicide case until Izzy’s neighbor told him she saw Yancy come out of Izzy’s apartment. Since the two have such bad blood, Mendez will probably run with the witness testimony and try to take down Yancy in future episodes ofBad Monkey.
