Janelle James’ Principal Ava was initially introduced as something of a villain in season 1 since the underqualified, openly corrupt principal boasted about only getting her job because she blackmailed a member of the school board. However, by season 4, Ava had transformed into a genuinely competent, ambitious, and whip-smart principal.

Ava could claim that the wardrobe is a learning tool intended to help the students get acquainted with the fashion industry, or she could try to justify it as a necessary expense by allowing all the faculty members to use the wardrobe. While Ava would likely despise either of these approaches, they would save her from further scrutiny by the school board and her old rival. As such,Abbott Elementary’s anti-heroine will need to find a fitting cover story for her extravagant purchases as the sitcom continues.
