Pokémon Legends: Z-Awill reportedly include a good number of new Mega Evolutions, and a list of more Pokémon that are getting them has supposedly been leaked online. Right off the bat, it’s worth noting that these leaks have not been officially confirmed by Game Freak, and no source for them was given by the content creator who shared the news. While this isn’t exactly uncommon for leaks - accurate or not - because sources could land themselves in trouble for sharing information like this. Still, it’s worth not treating any unconfirmed rumors as fact until we hear otherwise.
With all that said,it’s still hard not to get excited about the potential new Mega Evolutions inPokémon Legends: Z-A. It also makes total sense that a game thattakes place in the Kalos regionwould be the one to introduce a lot of new Mega Evolutions. After all, it wasPokémon XandYthat first introduced the concept, so it seems natural for their region to be where we get more. I’m hopeful there is at least some accuracy to this leak, as I would really like to see a Mega Evolution for one of these Pokémon.

Legends: Z-A Leaks Show Off New Mega Evolutions
According To The Leak, There Are 27 New Mega Evolutions
Centro LEAKS compiled a list of Pokémon onTwitterthat will supposedly be gettingMega Evolutions inPokémon Legends: Z-A. When counting up all the alleged leaks on the list,it appears that there will be an additional 27 new Mega Evolutions, a number that has been thrown around before regardingPokémon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Evolutions, though it still hasn’t been confirmed. If this list is real, it looks pretty exciting, and includes several popular Pokémon. You can see the full list of possible new Mega-Evolving Pokémon below:
It isn’t all that surprising to see Meganium, Feraligatr, and Emboar listed here, as they are the final form of the three starting Pokémon inPokémon Legends: Z-A. Giving starters Mega Evolutions seems like a wise move, butPokémon XandYactually never gave their starting Pokémon Mega Evolutions. Perhaps Game Freak realized this was a strange way to handle things, and decided to course correct forPokémon Legends: Z-A.

With Pokémon Legends: Z-A Releasing This Fall, There’s Never Been A Better Time To Revisit Gen 6
Kalos is an iconic entry into the Pokémon franchise, and it’s one you should definitely play before jumping into Pokémon Legends: Z-A later this year.
As someone who started the franchise withPokémon Blueback in the late ’90s,I’m always excited to see updates to some of the original 151 Pokémon. Dragonite and Victreebel in particular I’m interested to see in Mega Evolution form, though I can see Starmie also getting a pretty cool design. I’m also interested to see how Zygarde’s Mega Evolution is handled, and what role it might play in the game’s story. While all of these possible Pokémon are exciting, there is one that stands out to me most of all.

Greninja May Be Getting A Mega Evolution In Z-A
Greninja Is One Of The Pokémon On The List Of Leaks
Among all the potential new Mega Evolutions, Greninja is the one that caught my attention.Greninja is a fan-favorite Pokémon and one that seems well-suited to a Mega Evolution. However, as of now, it hasn’t gotten one. There is a slightly different version that Ash had, which has been dubbed Ash-Greninja in thePokémon TCG, but this wasn’t a true Mega Evolved form. Ash didn’t have a Mega Stone for Greninja, and the Pokémon didn’t really change that much.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Hasn’t Shown Off Nighttime Gameplay Yet, & I Think I Know Why
The absence of official nighttime footage of Pokémon Legends: Z-A is notable, but there is one strong possibility for what may be hidden by this.
Hopefully, if Greninja really does get a Mega Evolution inPokémon Legends: Z-A, it will have a distinctly different visual design from both the standard Greninja and Ash’s version. It would be nice to see somethingas different as Mega X Charizardor Mega Gyarados. It would be disappointing to see Greninja get a Mega Evolution like Mega Charizard Y or Mega Venusaur which doesn’t change its design all that much.It would be a shame to have my excitement for the new Greninja dampened by a lackluster new look.

Why I’m Excited About Mega Greninja In Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Greninja’s Mega Evolution Is A Long Time Coming
Part of the reason I’m so excited to see Greninja get a Mega Evolution is that it feels likePokémon Legends: Z-Ais finally making good on my expectations fromPokémon XandY. I picked Froakie as my starter inPokémon Yand just kind of assumed that it would get a Mega Evolution. As cool as it was to get a Mega version of a Kanto starter, I was still pretty disappointed that my Greninja was being upstaged in its own game. Now that we’re heading back to the Kalos region, the timing seems perfect for Mega Greninja.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Leak Claims Iconic Gen 1 Pokemon Will Get a Mega Evolution
A new rumor suggests that Victreebel will get a Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, giving the Gen 1 Pokémon some much deserved love.
My personal disappointment withPokémon XandYaside, Greninja is also just an exciting Pokémon in general. Pokémon designs can be a little inconsistent (I’m looking at you Klinklang), so when a newer Pokémon manages to break out and enjoy the type of popularity that Greninja has, it’s a nice reminder that the series didn’t peak in its first few generations. Greninja’s popularity is also well-earned, between its cool design and relatively high power level.I’m also excited to see what a Mega Evolved version of a Water Shuriken looks like.

From a mechanical standpoint,I’m also interested to see how Greninja handlesPokémon Legends: Z-A’s new combat mechanics. I would hope that, being a fast Pokémon, Greninja would be able to quickly move around the battlefield and dodge enemy attacks. If true, this could make battling with Greninja and its Mega Evolved form a lot of fun in the new game. I’m holding out judgment onPokémon Legends: Z-A’s new combat until I can try it myself, but I can’t help being cautiously optimistic about how it may transform Pokémon battles, and Greninja seems like the perfect Pokémon for it.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Could Have The Perfect New Online Feature
The most recent promotional footage of Pokémon Legends: Z-A suggests one Kalos feature is still in use, opening up new online possibilities.
Aside from just what this means forPokémon Legends: Z-A, I’m also excited about the prospect of Mega Greninja making its way into otherPokémongames. I’m a big fan of thePokémon Trading Card Game, andMega Evolutions are making a comeback there. I can’t wait to see what a possible Mega Greninja card could do if this leak turns out to be real. Mega Greninja could also feasibly appear inPokémon GO, as well as any upcoming mainlinePokémongames that have yet to be announced. Even if this leak isn’t fully accurate, I hope it’s at least right about Greninja.
