Wonder Woman is Set to Die During the Upcoming ‘Wonder War’
Killed Along with the Rest of the Amazons by The Sovereign’s Family
InWonder Woman #19by Tom King, Daniel Sampere, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles, the Sovereign rushes to finish telling the story of how Diana defeated him. However,Wonder Woman’s daughter Trinityisn’t satisfied and demands to know more. Trinity binds the withered king in the Lasso of Truth, demanding to know what happened between him and her mother in their final conflict. However, the Sovereign reveals he knows the truth Trinity has been trying to hide: The Amazons are all dead, including Wonder Woman, who has been stabbed in the heart with a dagger.
The Amazons are all dead, including Wonder Woman, who has been stabbed in the heart with a dagger.

The Sovereign goads Trinity, asking if she wants to know why the dagger bore his family’s colors or why Lyssa, the perpetrator behind the Wonder War, had the dagger in the first place. Trinity insists that the Sovereign finish the story and he relents. The king reveals thatwhen Wonder Woman came for him in the White House, she summoned a similar dagger made from her own fury and forced the Sovereign to carve the word ‘Liar’ into his chest, a scar that he still bears years later in prison.
Trinity is bewildered that everything that’s happened in the Wonder War all comes back to Wonder Woman humiliating the Sovereign. But the king reveals his story wasn’t just of his defeat, but the beginning of his revenge. Elsewhere, Wonder Woman’s former rival Emelie is giving birth. Etta Candy assists with the delivery and successfully brings Emelie’s baby girl into the world. Emelie remarks that her child is a curse and gives her the name Lyssa, meaning she’sthe Sovereign’s possible child and the Amazon who will, one day, murder Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman Has Actually Beaten Death Several Times Before
The Gods Have Helped Diana Conquer Death Before
As wild as it may seem, this wouldn’t be the first time Wonder Woman has fallen in battle. As an Amazon, Diana has faced dozens of powerful threats and occasionally, her life has been taken. In Crisis on Infinite Earths’ dramatic conclusion, Wonder Woman was hit by the Anti-Monitor’s energy, reverting her to the clay she was born from. However, the creation of the post-Crisis DC Universeallowed for Wonder Woman to be reborn completely under George Pérez’s creative direction.
…Wonder Woman was hit by the Anti-Monitor’s energy, reverting her to the clay she was born from

While Wonder Woman managed to cheat her death thanks to the reboot, it wouldn’t last forever. Less than a decade later, during the War of the Gods storyline, Wonder Woman faced her nemesis Circe in a battle that ended with the powerful witch doing the same thing the Anti-Monitor did and revert Diana back to clay. However, her death was temporary and came back to Earth after defeating Circe in limbo. Not too long after that, Diana fought the demon lord Neron, who killed Wonder Woman in a dramatic confrontation.
This particular death took place inWonder Woman #125 (1997)!
The gods, however, had bigger plans for Wonder Woman, and she was reborn as a goddess of truth. Diana would have a few more close calls with death in the years that followed. She even temporarily died and became a Black Lantern duringBlackest Night, though the loving power of a Star Sapphire ring brought her back. Most recently, Diana sacrificed her life at the end ofDark Nights: Death Metalin order to defeat the Batman Who Laughs, and whilethe gods offered Wonder Woman a place among the Quintessence, she chose to remain a mortal.
How is Wonder Woman Going to Make it Out This Time?
The Gods, Time Travel, Or Something Completely Unexpected?
There’s a lot about the Wonder War that’s currently unknown, but it is known that Lyssa, Sovereign’s daughter, is out seeking on the Amazons for her father. One must remember that the Sovereign stands for everything that Wonder Woman doesn’t, especially deception. While the Lasso of Lies isn’t in his family anymore, the Sovereign, and presumably his daughter, are skilled liars. It would be very much in their style to fake Wonder Woman’s death in an attempt to throw Trinity off her gameso that Lyssa could kill her.
…while they’ve been generous with Diana in the past, there’s no telling if the deities will bail her out again…
But assuming that actually is the real Wonder Woman and she’s really dead, what now? The most likely option is that Trinity could call on the gods to restore the life of her mother, as well as the rest of the Amazons. But the gods aren’t always the most reliable bunch and while they’ve been generous with Diana in the past, there’s no telling if the deities will bail her out again, much less the rest of the Amazons. That being said,an upcoming miniseries may shed light on how Trinity will avert Wonder Woman’s untimely death.
The soon-to-be-releasedTrinity: Daughter of Wonder Womanminiseries is set to follow the young Amazon as she travels through time searching for her father. It hasn’t been revealed how she’s going to gain access to time travel, but she is going to be traveling through multiple eras of DC history. Perhaps Trinity knows she won’t be able to end the Wonder War, butshe can stop it, and save Wonder Woman’s life, by going back in time and changing the Sovereign’s plans for Lyssa.
Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman #1is available on June 11th from DC Comics!
Wonder Woman’s Going to Come Back, But Fans Will Have to Be Patient
DC’s Icon Historically Has Never Been Gone for Long
While Wonder Woman’s demise appears to be for real, it’s not the first time she’s bit the dust (and chances are it won’t be the last). Diana is almost certain to either recover from or avoid this death altogether and, given how prominent Trinity has been a part of the currentWonder Womanvolume, she’ll almost certainly play a role in saving her mom. Whatever fate may hold, fans are just going to have to wait until they find out how DC Comics is going to undo this grizzly end forWonder Woman.
