There is so much to do and see inFallout 4that it’s extremely easy to miss a lot of it. In fact, players with upwards of 1,000 or more hours in the game are still missing some minor and even major features and quests. It’s incredibly impressive just how much has been crammed intoFallout 4, so much so that dedicated fans can easily miss out on a lot of it.

One such feature is to do with companions and includes one of the manyhidden quests inFallout 4that players can very easily miss. This is actually quite a fun mission, and it can pop up more than once, depending on how well players tend to their settlements. Surprisingly, this feature has been so well hidden that most players have never even heard of it.

Fallout 4 Companions And Settlers Can Be Kidnapped

It Starts A Unique Kidnapping Quest

Players can have their companions and other settlers kidnapped inFallout 4thanks to a Minutemen radiant questthat can occur randomly throughout a playthrough. This quest can be started when players talk to Preston Garvey, listen to Radio Freedom, or talk to any settler. They will inform the player that a settler, who could be one of the player’s currently inactive companions, has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. This was shown by userMisterAtlas_on Reddit, who had Piper the companion kidnapped.

This is a completely random event, one that isn’t prompted by any of the player’s actions, and can even occur before fans join the Minutemen. It also isn’t the same aslosing companions inFallout 4, which is a different issue altogether. So,it’s no surprise that the majority ofFallout 4players haven’t encountered this radiant quest, even after sinking thousands of hours into the game.

Hidden Fallout 4 Easter Egg Has An Incredibly Macabre Inspiration

There are a ton of Fallout 4 Easter eggs, and one of them points to the most classic horror stories of all time by one of the most iconic authors.

Even some of theFallout 4characters players wish were companionscan be kidnapped, as it’s not exclusive to just people’s currently acquired companions. Once the quest has started, the player will get a notification at the top with the quest name being “Kidnapping at” and then the quest location. Interestingly, this is a mission that players can fail, and there are dire consequences for doing so.

Players Must Go And Rescue Their Kidnapped Companions Or Settlers

Alternatively, They Can Pay The Ransom Fee

After receiving the quest, players have two choices: give the settlement leader the necessary caps to pay off the ransom fee, or head to the location where the settler is being held and rescue them. The settler could have been kidnapped by either Gunners, super mutants, or raiders, so players will have to decide whether it’s worth the encounter. While the kidnapped settlers won’t be guarded by thehardest enemies inFallout 4, the kidnappers will put up a fight.

However, it’s worth noting that it’s not currently known what actually prevents this mission from happening

This same process applies if companions have been kidnapped instead of a regular Settler. Players will have to either pay a steep fee to have them delivered back safely or go out and rescue them, only this time without their support. Additionally, the same settlers and companions can be kidnapped repeatedly inFallout 4, no matter how many times fans rescue them.

If the player chooses to pay the ransom fee, the settler will always be returned safely. The kidnappers are cruel, but apparently not evil enough to go back on their word and keep the money while killing their abductee.

There are 29 locations that the kidnapped settler or companion can be taken to inFallout 4. This includes Back Street Apparel, Coast Guard pier, D.B. Technical High School, Gunners plaza, Nordhagen Beach, Parkview lounge, The Shamrock Taphouse, and more.It is completely random which location the victim will be taken to, although it is based on which gang took them in the first place.

Players Can Fail To Rescue The Kidnapped Person In Fallout 4

Companions Will Hate It If The Victim Isn’t Rescued

It is possible to fail the Kidnapping missions inFallout 4, with the consequences of doing so being pretty dire.If a regular settler is kidnapped, then players have three days to go rescue them, after which the settler will be killed, and the mission will fail. Companions will have a very negative reaction to this, and as this mission can happen multiple times, failing it repeatedly can have a drastic effect on their relationship with the player.

So, players will need to make sure they come equipped with thebest guns inFallout 4in order to help rescue the kidnapped person. Alternatively, they can attempt to stop it by beefing up security at their various settlements. However,it’s worth noting that it’s not currently known what actually prevents this mission from happeningand whether using defenses at settlements makes a huge difference.

Fallout 4: The 25 Best Armor Sets

What’s the best armor in Fallout 4? There’s plenty of different ones to try, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages in the wasteland.

Nevertheless, it can’t hurt to improve security a bit to prevent gangs from kidnapping settlers and companions over and over again. Of course, if players want to see this quest happen, as it is quite rare, then they should just leave their settlers defenseless. Regardless, this is further proof thatFallout 4is absolutely packed with interesting content, so much so that players can often miss it completely.
