1000-lb Sistersstar Amanda Halterman has lost a significant amount of weight since having gastric bypass surgery, and she recently celebrated with a whole new look. Premiering in 2020, the unscripted series centers around the weight-loss journeys ofAmy SlatonandTammy Slaton, but some of their other siblings have gotten in on the weight-loss action themselves. 43-year-old Amanda didn’t appear on the show during the first few seasons, as she was going through a divorce from her ex-husband, David halterman.

During1000-lb Sistersseason 5, Amanda and her other sister, Misty Slaton Wentworth, announced that they’d both be going in for weight loss surgery on the same day. “Me and Misty’s been going to see Dr. Smith,” Amanda told her siblings.Dr. Eric Smith is the bariatric surgeonwho treated several of the other Slatons. Amy, Tammy, and their brother, 43-year-old Christ Slaton, had already had the surgery, so they knew the risk Amanda and Misty were taking. With the support of their concerned siblings,Amanda and Misty both had bariatric surgery on the same day, in March 2023.

Amanda lost over 300 pounds after her first weight-loss surgery, but found herself putting the weight back on. Amanda didn’t rush into her new look. In July,Amandaposted TikTokphotos of herself trying out different hair colors and stylesin an app. In some of the test photos, she’s rocking bright, colorful shades of pink and blue, while in one photo,Amanda’s wearing long wavy hair.

It’s unclear how much weight Amanda has lost, but it’s a significant amount because she looks like a different person.

Losing a considerable amount of weight probably isn’t the only reason Amanda wants to make a major change. The1000-lb Sistersseason 6 co-star went through a difficult breakup fairly recently.Amanda, seen above on her"surgeriversy"was in a serious relationship with a man named RJ. The relationship was so serious that she moved to Florida to be with him. In May, RJ went out of state to visit family, and he never came back. He simply ghosted her without any warning, after she moved away from her family to be with him.
After RJ ghosted her, Amanda tried calling and texting him, to no avail. She even tried to contact members of his family who she’d come to know, but she received no response. Going through a break-up is hard enough, but for someone to do it in such a disrespectful manner must have been extremely painful for Amanda. Though she was devastated by the loss, she should feel good about the fact that she dodged a bullet.

Amy Has A New Mindset
After the devastating break-up, Amanda moved in with her sister, Amy, for a while. Amy had recently divorced her husband, Michael Halterman, and she was now a single mother raising two little boys, Gage and Glenn Halterman. Adjusting to life as a single mom was challenging for Amy, so it was nice having her sister around. Amanda has raised her own four children, who are now adults, and she clearly loves her little nephews. Now that Amanda is single again, it’s understandable that she wants a new look to go along with her new single life.
