One Tree Hillwas recently announced to be getting a revival on Netflix with Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan leading the charge, but certain things need to happen for the show to be a success. With so many shows getting revivals or new adaptations,One Tree Hillis just the next in a long line ofshows from the early 2000s getting rebooted. For fans of the show, this announcement is a welcome development, but some may be concerned about how the revival will live up to its original counterpart.
Though there’s little known about theOne Tree Hillrevival, it’s clear that the same charm that the original iteration of the series had needs to be present in the revival. It’s unclear which actors will be reprising their roles, but with Bush and Burton Morgan being attached to the project, audiences will likely see the return of Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer. While other formerOne Tree Hillcast members have spoken out about their lack of involvement or whether they’d appear, it seems nothing is truly set in stone.

10Karen’s Café Must Return
The Iconic Location Wasn’t Seen Much In Later Seasons
WhenOne Tree Hillfirst premiered, Karen Roe’s restaurant, Karen’s Café was a staple in the show. Major moments in Lucas Scott’s life happened in the restaurant, and it was a great meeting place for the characters to come together. The restaurant was closed when Karen left Tree Hill, but Brooke bought the space in season 5 and it became a Clothes Over Bros store. However, once Haley became pregnant with her second child and Brooke became pregnant with her and Julian’s twins, they decided to convert the store back into Karen’s Café.
One Tree Hill Sequel: Cast, Story & Everything We Know
The legendary Aughts drama One Tree Hill is returning in a brand-new sequel series, and several original cast members are attached.
The setting allowed Brooke and Haley’s children to grow up in the same welcoming atmosphere that they had when Karen owned and ran the café. Haley’s experience as a waitress in Karen Café’s original iteration, and Brooke’s business knowledge made reviving the café a good choice.Because of how important this move was inOne Tree Hill, it must be includedwhen the show is revived. Even if Brooke and Haley no longer operate Karen’s Café, it’ll be important that it is a centerpiece for theOne Tree Hillrevival.

9OTH Can Finally Give Rachel a Redemption Arc
Daneel Ackles is Already Attached To The Project
One of the biggest disappointments in the originalOne Tree Hillis that the show’s long-time villain Dan Scott got a redemption arc but Danneel Ackles’ character, Rachel Gatina didn’t.Rachel was never a main character but did appear in 47 episodes ofOne Tree Hilland was certainly memorable. Since leaving the show, Danneel Ackles went on to marrySupernaturalstar Jensen Ackles, and the pair started a production company, which will seemingly be attached to theOne Tree Hillrevival.
Ackles' production company also spear-headed theSupernaturalspin-offThe Winchesters, which only lasted one season.
It seems that because of Ackles’s involvement behind the scenes, Rachel will be appearing in some capacity in theOne Tree Hillrevival, though it’s unclear if she’ll be elevated to a series regular. Either way,if theOne Tree Hillreboot is truly a continuation of the original show, Rachel deserves to be redeemed. It will feel more complete for her character and to make right some of the wrongs from the original show.
8Jamie Playing Basketball at Tree Hill High (Or College)
One Tree Hill’s Series Finale Teased This
Though audiences got to see Jaime Scott grow up in the later seasons ofOne Tree Hill, the series finale teased that Jaime went on to play high school basketball at Tree Hill High just like his dad Nathan, and his uncle Lucas. It’s unclear if Jamie’s actor, Jackon Brundage would be interested in reprising his role,or if he’d have to be recast, but either way, seeing Jamie continue to play basketball at the high school or college level will bring back some of the original heart ofOne Tree Hill.
Basketball was a central aspect ofOne Tree Hill’s early seasons and was a great way to show tension between the main characters. If theOne Tree Hillrebootaims to include the children of the main characters from the original show, basketball would be a good way of bringing together the different generations of characters. This would also be a good way of grounding the show back in something familiar to audiences.
7An OTH Revival Needs to Show How Lucas and Peyton Return To Tree Hill
The Couple Left Tree Hill at the End of Season 6
One Tree Hillchanged drastically after Lucas Scott and Peyton Sawyer, two integralcharacters who leftOne Tree Hill. While Chad Michael Murray briefly returned inOne Tree Hillseason 9,little is known about Lucas, Peyton, and their daughter Sawyer after leaving Tree Hill. With a revival on the horizon, an explanation of where they went is needed.
WithHillarie Burton Morgan involved in theOne Tree Hillrevival and likely reprising her role as Peyton Sawyer, it’ll be important that audiences get an explanation of where the couple went and how they returned to Tree Hill.Peyton and Lucas’ return to Tree Hillmay be the catalyst for the revival, but that remains to be seen. No matter what, audiences need an explanation as to why and when Peyton and Lucas returned to Tree Hill.
6The River Court Needs to Return
The Iconic Location Needs to Come Back
The River Court was an important location inOne Tree Hill’s first 4 seasons, but it was largely absent in the later seasons of the show. With the revival hopefully distancing itself from thecrazier storylines that took place towards the end ofOne Tree Hill, the River Court is likely a great place for meaningful interactions and a great callback to the original iteration of the show.Hopefully, theOne Tree Hillreboot will return to the real-life filming location of the River Court.
Though the River Court was only featured in a few seasons ofOne Tree Hill, the location is iconic because of the key moments that took place there. If there were going to be cameos from otherOne Tree Hillalum, the River Court would be a good place to see everyone reunite. This would be similar toOne Tree Hill’s soft reboot and time jump after season 4.
5See Original Characters Children Grow Up Together
By the end ofOne Tree Hill’s original run, all of the main characters either had children or were expectant parents. Knowing that Brooke and Peyton will be returning, it would only make sense that their children would be appearing as well. Though Brooke’s twins, Davis and Jude would be a bit younger than Peyton’s daughter Sawyer,it would still be great to see them grow up together and be friends.
Nathan Scott and Haley James Scott
Lucas Scott and Peyton Sawyer
Julian Baker and Brooke Davis
Jude Baker
Though it’s not confirmed that Nathan and Haley will return for the reboot, their daughter Lydia is much closer in age to Davis and Jude, making them the perfect younger characters to focus on. Hopefully, theOne Tree Hillreboot will show the interpersonal relationships of multiple generations, and including the main character’s children is a great way to keep that tradition alive. Because Sawyer, Lydia, Davis, and Jude were only really seen as babies or toddlers, they will likely be recast, which would also breathe new life into the show.
4The One Tree Hill Revival Needs A Smaller Main Cast
The Original Cast Was Too Large
One Tree Hillwas always supposed to focus on Nathan and Lucas, but as the show went on the main cast began including more and more people. This includes Mouth McFadden, Julian Baker, Quinn James, Clay Evans, and many more. The amount ofOne Tree Hillsupporting characterscan sometimes make it hard to follow and keep track of who was on the show and when. For the reboot ofOne Tree Hill, it’s clear that the main cast needs to remain small.
While it’d be a welcomed surprise that supporting characters from the show’s original iteration make cameos or play small roles, the story truly needs to focus on the main cast members.
While it’d be a welcomed surprise that supporting characters from the show’s original iteration make cameos or play small roles, the story truly needs to focus on the main cast members. It’s not clear who that cast would be comprised of, but with the comments from James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Chad Michael Murray, it seems theOne Tree Hillrevival will be more female-focused, and that characters like Nathan and Lucas may not be as vital to the story as they originally were.
3One Tree Hill Needs to Focus On Family
This Will Go Back to OTH’s Roots
In the later seasons ofOne Tree Hill, the focus on family wasn’t quite as important as it had been in earlier seasons. After the time jump and seeing all of the main characters in their own careers, it was clear that the show was growing and adapting. While familial dynamics still had a lot to do in the later seasons ofOne Tree Hillit wasn’t like it had been. In the revival,One Tree Hillshould return to the themes of family.
It was clear that even though blood bonds were important inOne Tree Hill, family was also something central to the show. This could be seen with Brooke being Jamie’s godmother and calling her “Aunt Brooke”even though she wasn’t family through blood. Those themes of loving the family the characters have but also caring for the family they made along the way is an important theme the reboot must continue.
2A Revival Must Include One Tree Hill’s Major Couples
It’s Unclear if All Characters Will Be Returning
At this point, it is unclearwho will return for theOne Tree Hillrevival. Chad Michael Murray has also stated that he hadn’t been contacted about the revival and doesn’t know what if any role he’d play in it. With these core cast members possibly not returning, it’s hard to imagine a version ofOne Tree Hillthat doesn’t include the three main couples.
Making sure that Nathan and Haley, Lucas and Peyton, and Brooke and Julian all appear will make or break the revival. Reboots of other shows have failed because it was missing characters that brought the show together. So,having characters like Nathan, Haley, and Lucas potentially not appear might mean theOne Tree Hillrevival is not as interesting.
1The One Tree Hill Sequel Can’t Rely On Nostalgia Only
The Show Has To Move Their Story Along
There are many memorable characters and storylines fromOne Tree Hill’s 9 seasons, but with so much history means that the revival cannot rely solely on creating a sense of nostalgia for the audiences. Instead, the show needs to find a way to bring in new audiences and not isolate them for not knowing all of the details from the show’s original 9 seasons. This means that theOne Tree Hillrevival must have new storylines that are brought out of real-life, current struggles characters like these might be going through, not something outlandish.
It’s exciting that a beloved show likeOne Tree Hillis coming back for a revival, but it seems there’s a lot that can go wrong while it’s in development that may turn some audience members away from it. While it’ll be exciting to see beloved characters like Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer back onscreen together, the revival must stick the landing on such a big undertaking. No matter what, audiences will still love to see the charm of theOne Tree Hillcharacters back.
