Avatar: Fire & Ashis set to come out on August 04, 2025, but even without an official trailer, some story details have already been revealed. The upcomingAvatarmovieslook to expand the franchise lore, with each new movie exploring more of what is already an incredibly intricate ecosystem on the planet Pandora. While many movie franchises go to great lengths to keep their plot details hidden, we appear to have a lot ofinformation aboutAvatar: Fire & Ashalready. This may be deceptive, withAvatar 3having major surprises in store.

The main confirmed plot point is the inclusion ofmenacing villains in the form of a fire Na’vi tribe, who are going to be the antagonists, and official concept art has given a glimpse into their home. Everything we know about James Cameron’s thirdAvatarfilm suggests thatAvatar: Fire & Ashwill be significantly different from the movies that came before, from the setting to the villains.

10Fire & Ash Will Introduce A New Na’vi Clan

The Fire Clan Will Live Near A Volcano

For the first twoAvatarmovies, the Na’vi clans on Pandorahave been good characters, existing in harmony with their surroundings and adapting based on their location. While the original movie gave audiences a glimpse at other clans,Avatar: The Way of Watergave viewers an insight into a completely new clanand their way of life. One of the first details to emerge aboutAvatar: Fire & Ashwas the introduction of another Na’vi clan and their home.

After two movies that featured lush greenery and wildlife, there was much speculation about how a Na’vi fire clan would fit into the ecosystem. Though a tribe that managed wildfires or lived on a former battlefield had been suggested,James Cameron has said that the home of the fire Na’vi clan will be a volcano. This is a side of Pandora that has not yet been seen, and, as the planet has an unusual relationship with gravity, a volcano could behave in a different way than expected.

9The Fire Na’vi Will Be Antagonists

Their Leader Will Be Played By Oona Chaplin

James Cameron has said that the fire Na’vi clan will show the worst side of the Na’vi people, with much more destructive tendencies. As the different clans have generally been peaceful, with respect for all living things, it is not yet clear what he meant by this. When explaining the significance of the name of the movie, he toldEntertainment Weekly, “If you think of fire as hatred, anger, violence, that sort of thing, and ash is the aftermath.”

Avatar 3’s fire clan will have a female leader named Varang, who will be played by Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones) though little else has been revealed about her character. She did not appear in the second movie,Avatar: The Way of Water, butVarang will play a central role in theAvatarworld from now on, as she has been confirmed to appear in at least the next three movies in the franchise.

8Payakan Will Return

His Actions May Have Set Up A Major Battle In Avatar 3

A key feature in theAvatarmovies is the deep spiritual connection between the Na’vi and other animal characters. Payakan is a Tulkun and an outcast from his people for embracing more warlike tendencies when needed. This caused tragedy in his early life but saved many of the characters inThe Way of Water.Payakan’s return inAvatar: Fire & Ashhas been confirmed and, as there are several key storylines he could be involved in, he is likely to be a central character.

Avatar introduced the world to a variety of new and exciting creatures all across the Pandoran landscape, with unique traits and looks for each.

Depending on what the fire Na’vi do inAvatar: Fire & Ash,it is possible that the other Tulkuns could come around to Payakan’s way of thinking and unite in a battle. This could change the Tulkun culture for futureAvatarmovies, and perhaps give Payakan a new status among his peers. If theTulkuns join the battle inAvatar: Fire & Ash, this would be an incredible spectacle for viewers and could give Payakan justice at last.

7Lo’ak Will Replace Jake Sully As The Narrator

Focusing On A New Character Can Significantly Expand The Franchise

Avatar: The Way of Waterexpanded the world ofAvatarsignificantly, beginning with Jake Sully and Neytiri’s family. This opened up a world of possibilities for Jake and Neytiri’s children to have their own adventures in laterAvatarmovies, beginning with the rebellious Lo’ak and his friendship with Payakan. James Cameron has announced thatLo’ak will take over from Jake as the narrator forAvatar 3, which is exciting news for the rest of the franchise.

Giving Lo’ak his own voice inAvatar: Fire & Ashallows for the possibility that theAvatarmovies could run for decades, with the narrator’s voice passing from Jake to his descendants. Cameron has said that each subsequent movie in theAvatarfranchise will have its own narrator, meaning that the story could even pass between clans over time. As Lo’ak is very different from his father, a new narrator is likely to have a different perspective, and seeing events through his eyes will be interesting.

6Avatar: Fire & Ash Will Focus On The Sully Family’s Grief

Zoe Saldana Said That The Journey “Will Not Be Easy”

Avatar: The Way of Waterwas tragic in many ways, with Jake trying not to blame Lo’ak for the death of his elder brother, Neteyam, after he is shot and killed by one of Quaritch’s men. This has left the family dealing with extreme grief and complicated emotions, which will form a key story point inAvatar: Fire & Ash. Zoe Saldaña toldDeadline, “They’re not always going to meet eye to eye, and I just hope that they keep each other safe.”

It is certain that with Jake and Neytiri’s family still grieving for Neteyam, there are some dark times ahead for the mainAvatarcharacters. Lo’ak is likely to be dealing with guilt over his brother’s death, while the other children are now caught in a developing war, and without their elder brother to protect them as he used to. That said,Zoe Saldaña offered some hope for theAvatarfamily, saying how much she appreciated that “in the core of this entire saga is a beautiful love story.”

5Quaritch Will Return In Avatar: Fire & Ash

He And Spider Have Unfinished Business

Colonel Miles Quaritch was the main antagonist in the originalAvatarmovie, and though he appeared to have been killed, he was such an excellent villain that he was brought back in “Recombinant” form forAvatar: The Way of Water. As James Cameron has said that he will be the antagonist in all five plannedAvatarmovies, he will certainly return inAvatar: Fire & Ash. That said, his return will be complicated due to Spider’s actions.

Quaritch’s Avatar 3 Return Means The James Cameron Franchise Can Finally Have Its Best Villains After 16 Years

Avatar 3’s Fire Na’vi plot has an opportunity to make Quaritch an even worse villain, strengthening the franchise’s overarching story in the process.

With Quaritch’s son Spider being a fully integrated and essentially adopted Na’vi, this would have caused enough problems for Quaritch. Even if he had been able to disown Spider enough to kill him along with other Na’vi,Spider saved his life inAvatar: The Way of Water, putting Quaritch in his debt.Spider will have complicated feelings after Neytiri threatened to kill him, even if she was bluffing, and this could push him and Quaritch closer together.

4Quaritch Will Seemingly Be Captured By The Fire Na’vi

They May Have A Common Goal

Concept art showed an encounter between Quaritch and the fire Na’viwhich could be read in several different ways. James Cameron has suggested that the menacing fire Na’vi and human characters will swap roles, with the Na’vi becoming the antagonists. That said, that could leave many options open for Quaritch to have a role in a Na’vi war.TheAvatar: Fire & Ashconcept artappears to show Quaritch being captured by the fire tribe, but it is unknown what will happen next.

The pictures show Quaritch with his hands tied behind his back, being led into the fire tribe’s home village. Asmost of the Na’vi appear to be armed with human weapons, this suggests that they either have a previous alliance with human characters, or they have taken the weapons by force. It has been suggested that as both Quaritch and the fire Na’vi are going to be antagonists, they could end up working together toward a common goal of destroying Jake and his people.

3Avatar: Fire & Ash Will Have An Unexpected Twist

Jack Champion Said The Movie Will Take “A Shocking Left Turn”

Avatar: Fire & Ashis going to be extremely different from the two previousAvatarmovies, with both James Cameron and key cast members saying that the movie will go to some very dark places. We already know that Jake and his family are experiencing intense grief, butAvatar 3is going to go further. Jack Champion, who plays Spider, has confirmed that theAvatar: Fire & Ashstory plans even shocked the production team.

Champion toldThe Hollywood Reporter, “I was very shocked by it. It just takes a hard left turn, and that’s not a bad thing. You think you know where it’s going, but then a wrecking ball comes. So you’re completely like, “Oh wow, I never thought that would’ve happened.” It is not yet known what form this wrecking ball will take, and it is likely thatwhile we know many story details aboutAvatar: Fire & Ash, this one might be kept under wraps.

2Kiri Will Learn More About Her Mother, Grace

Sigourney Weaver’s Character Will Be A Key Character In Avatar 3

Jake and Neytiri appear to be main characters inAvatar: Fire & Ash, continuing their story from the first two movies. However,Avatar: The Way of Waterintroduced many new characters to follow, which means that the scope of the story will expand. A published script extract shows thatKiri will learn more about her history in the nextAvatarmovie. The extract shows a scene in which Kiri is trying to connect with the Tree of Souls, and growing frustrated.

Avatar 2: All The Clues To Kiri’s True Nature

Avatar: The Way of Water introduced Kiri, the mysterious (and miraculous) daughter of Dr. Grace Augustine. But what is Kiri’s true nature?

Grace’s consciousness is tied to the Tree of Souls, so, understandably, Kiri would want to find a way to reach her mother through the tree. Still, it appears that the connection does not come easily to her, with Mo’at, Neytiri’s mother, trying to comfort her. Kiri is mysterious, with Grace’s avatar being found to be pregnant inThe Way of Water. This has led to many fan theories about whether Kiri is a product of Eywa herself, andAvatar 3might be preparing to reveal the truth.

Avatar’s Neytiri and Jake Sully face each other on a fiery battleground. Jake’s hands are on Neytiri’s shoulders. She holds a bow at her side with her right hand.

1Eywa Saves An Avatar Character

Their Identity Is Not Yet Known

When Kiri struggles to connect with the Tree of Souls, something she says might reveal part of her mysterious past.Kiri tells Eywa, “You put me here for a reason,” which could confirm the fan theory that Kiri has no father, and is a product of Eywa herself. While this is not known for certain yet, one thing that is established in this scene is that Eywa saved somebody. Mo’at says, “I do not understand this - why the Great Mother would save the boy, then deny you now.”

Some theories suggest that another of Jake and Neytiri’s sons could get injured badly enough to need the Tree of Souls to save his life. This could form the plot twist that Jack Champion hinted at. Another possibility is that Spider, who is not a born Na’vi, is harmed in some way. An even more interesting possibility, given Mo’at’s age, is that this “boy” is an adult man, which could mean anyone, including Quaritch, will have an interesting encounter with Eywa inAvatar: Fire & Ash.
