TheLegend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomfollows its predecessors in many ways, including giving players access to various weapons for different play styles. While some may prefer a more ranged approach, others enjoy getting up close and personal with melee weapons or a mixture of both. Luckily forZeldafans, there’s no shortage of weapon types inTears of the Kingdom. In fact, there are six weapon types, including spears.
Spears are some of the most commonly found weapons inTears of the Kingdomand are what many players choose to start out using. Even as they progress, many players prefer the versatility of spears, which allows them to throw spears in a ranged attack or engage in a melee battle. Even when compared to swords, spears tend to be longer and give players some distance when fighting. With so many spears to choose from, which are the best for early and late-game players?

10The Soldier’s Spear
Take Down Bokoblin’s With The Soldier’s Spear
The Soldier’s Spear is a common spear found throughout Hyrule inTears of the Kingdom. While it’s not the best weapon or even the best spear out there, for early players, it can pack a quick punch. Because it’s decayed, it doesn’t have the best attack power. However, it’s light enough to allow for aquick, charged attack against enemies.
With its low base power of 4, I wouldn’t recommend tacklinghigh-level enemieswith this spear. Still, starting out in Hyrule, I enjoyed using this spearagainst enemies like Bokoblin’sbecause it allowed me to quickly take them out with quick succession attacks. However, if you’re looking for more strength in your Soldier’s Spear, you canfind anon-decayed versionin the Depths. Non-decayed Soldier’s Spears comes with a base power of 10.

9Zora Spear
Grab Zora’s Spear From Zora Territories
Another decent early-game and easy-to-obtain spear inTears of the Kingdomis the Zora Spear from theZora Gear archetype. Much like the name implies, the Zora Spear is made by the Zora people. Despite its size, the Zora Spear is lightweightand can be used to deal a quick series of attacks on enemies. When exploring the Zora territories in Lake Hylia and the Lanayru Great Spring, you’ll see many Zora guards holding these spears.
To obtain special weapons like the Ceremonial Trident or Lightscale Trident, the NPC Dento will require a Zora Spear for each, alongside other materials — five flint for the Ceremonial Trident and five flint and a Diamond for the Lightscale Trident.

Zora Spears aremade from metal and negate fire damage, but be careful because they will attract lightning during thunderstorms. Also, dropping the Zora Spear in water will cause the spear to sink. I do enjoy using this spear when I have one on hand, especially against fire-type enemies.

8Knight’s Halberd
Enjoy A Spear With Great Durability
Once used by the Knights of Hyrule, the Knight’s Halberd is a decent spear for fighting low-level enemies early on inTears of the Kingdom. Another spear made from metal, it’s a great weapon against fire-type enemies but not so much against anything using electricity — including thunderstorms, sodon’t be caught holding it when you hear thunder. Besides that, it is pretty durable.
Scan Amiibos for a chance at receiving a chest that contains a Knight’s Halberd Spear.

The Knight’s Halberd is often wielded by Moblins. Its ax-shaped spearhead makes it easy to distinguish from other common spears like the Soldier’s Spear. I enjoy using this spear, especially when I am low on health due to its special trait, Desperate Strength. Desperate Strengthdoubles its damage for players with one heart or less.

7Gerudo Spear
Find The Gerudo Spear In Gerudo Locations
Unsurprisingly, the Gerudo Spear is a spear that is used by theGerudo people, particularly their guards. As such, it can be found within Gerudo locations, like the Gerudo Desert and Gerudo Highlands. If you’re traveling through a Scorching Climate or fighting against a fire-type foe, these spears make a good weapon as they areresistant to fire damage, much like the two spears beforehand. However, again, you’ll want to unequip when dealing with electricity, as these spears also conduct electrical currents.
Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom’s Best Vehicle Is Surprisingly Simple
There are plenty of ways to cruise around Hyrule, but the best vehicle in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gives players some serious bang for their buck.
The Gerudo Spear has a unique design and looks like a trident rather than a spear. Most Gerudo Spears are decayed, but the non-decayed version can be found within the Depths. Since decayed spears tend to break easily, I prefer going down into the Depths to get the pristine versions of any spear I can, and that includes the Gerudo Spear.

6Mighty Zonaite Spear
Fuse The Beam Emitter For A Double Whammy
Zonaite Spears can pack a powerful punch, especially whenfused with Zonai devices, thanks to its passive ability. The passive abilityincreases the Mighty Zonaite Spear’s attack power when fused with Zonai devices. My personal favorite device to fuse with the Mighty Zonaite Spear is the Beam Emitter.
When fused with theBeam Emitter, the Mighty Zonaite Spear can pack a double whammy. Theunicorn-shaped Beam Emitter devicecan shoot powerful beams at enemies while also increasing attack power. Attaching it to the Cannon is another good call since the cannon canshoot powerful projectiles at enemies.

5Royal Halberd
Venture Into Hyrule Castle For The Royal Halberd
The Royal Halberd is a powerful spear withimpressive base attack power and durability, with even more impressive bonuses. Originally wielded by the Knights of Hyrule, it’s unsurprising that it packs quite the punch. InTears of the Kingdom, the Royal Halberd can be found on the floors of Hyrule Castle or by beating monsters.
The Royal Halberd belongs to the Royal Gear equipment alongside the Royal Broadsword, Royal Claymore, Royal Bow, and Royal Shield.
With a base starting attack power of 5 butdurability of 30, it’s already a great spear to have at your side. However, you can find the pristine and non-decaying version in the Depths with a greater starting attack power. Plus, the non-decaying version will last longersince the durability will also be improved.

4Forest Dweller’s Spear
Fight During Thunderstorms With The Forest Dweller’s Spear
If you’re traveling through a thunderstorm inTears of the Kingdom, it’s a good idea to equip the Forest Dweller’s Spear. Not only does it have a decent base attack power, but it’s also made from wood, which means there’sno chance of it being struck by lightning. Since wood does not conduct electricity, you can safely fight electric-type enemies with the Forest Dweller’s Spear or normal enemies during thunderstorms.
Be careful around fire. The Forest Dweller’s Spear is made from wood and can easily catch on fire, causing damage to the spear and Link.
The Forest Dweller’s Spear was originallycreated by the Koroksand used by Hylians. With a starting attack power of 4 and a durability of 24, it’s not the greatest spear, but it’s decent enough and will get the job done. Plus, it has thepotential for a bonus in attack powerand durability when used in fights. The YouTube video fromNo-Nonsense Guidesabove should help you find it.

3Royal Guard’s Spear
High Attack Power But Low Durability
The Royal Guard’s Spear is one of the better spears inTears of the Kingdom, thanks to itsbase attack power of 32. In fact, the Royal Guard’s Spear has the highest starting attack power of any other spear. If you want this weapon, check out the YouTube video fromWoW Questsabove. However, be aware that there is a catch. The base durability of this spear isn’t so great, sitting at a measly 15.
If you’re lucky enough to get the best possible bonus with the Royal Guard’s Spear, theattack power increases by 25. Another spear resistant to fire damage, the Royal Guard’s Spear is a great weapon to have on hand, especially if you like melee fighting. Even though it’s easy to break, thanks to its low durability, I still like having one on hand and always pick them up when I find them.

2Lightscale Trident
The Spear With The Best Durability In TotK
The second of the best spears inTears of the Kingdomis the Lightscale Trident. Despite it not having the word “Spear” in its name, the Lightscale Trident is still considered a spear. It’s a variation of the Zora Spear covered earlier but packs an even more powerful punch withstronger durability. For a visual guide to help you get this weapon, check out the YouTube video fromConConabove.
Fusing the Lightscale Trident will increase its durability to 95, making the weapon one of the most durable inTears of the Kingdom.
Like the Zora Spear,it’s lightweight, making it easy to land a series of attacks on enemies. If you want to get your hands on this weapon, you’ll need to visit Zora’s Domain and complete theGlory of Zora side quest. While completing a quest is required to obtain this spear inTears of the Kingdom, if it breaks, you can take it to Dento for an exchange, but you’ll need a Zora Spear, a Diamond, and five Flint to get a new Lightscale Trident.

1Gloom Spear
The Best Spear In TotK Is A Rare One
Arguably, one of the best spears inTears of the Kingdomis none other than the Gloom Spear. However, because it’s such a powerful weapon, it’s also very rare. The Gloom Spear is only obtained afterbeating Phantom Ganon. Though it has a high starting attack power of 30, it has a low durability of 16, making it easy to break. Plus, extended use of the Gloom Spear in the Depthswill inflict Gloom on Link, slowly lowering Link’s health, but never under one heart.
To bypass the Gloom effect on Link in the Depths, fuse the spear to a shield or weapon.
The Gloom Spear has metal components, which means that itdoes conduct electricity and doesn’t burn in fire-related situations, so keep that in mind. Despite its flaws, the Gloom Spear is one of my favorites. Not only do I love its looks, but I also love its attack power. Unlike the other spears on this list, the Gloom Spear is exclusive toTears of the Kingdomand does not appear inBreath of the Wild. You can see it in action in the YouTube video fromTheUntouchableWolfabove.

The Depths
Any of these spears in theTears of the Kingdomare a good choice. Some are good early on, while others are better late in the game. In the beginning, you might want to use the Soldier’s Spear, while the Gloom Spear is a better option once you’ve progressed. Choose the spear that best fits where you are in Link’s story and enjoy close combat with enemies.
