It wears its influences on its sleeve, from the surreal elements feeling right out of David Lynch’s movies to the nailbiting sci-fi of Stanley Kubrick’s2001: A Space Odyssey.
There’s a wonderful story to be told here too, one that will stick with the player long after they’re done. Fans will play as Elster the Replika as she explores a desolate planet in search of answers. There’s a lot to love aboutSignalis, andit’s definitely one of the more unique survival horror games. While the setting is a far cry from Silent Hill, the vibes, tone, and even gameplay all match it perfectly.
9The Evil Within 2 (Tango Gameworks)

The Evil Within 2is a more action-packed version ofSilent Hill 2, coming from the horror masterminds -and rhythm game aficionados too, surprisingly - Tango Gameworks. It is a sequel to the first game, bringing with it a slew of improvements and some new genuinely haunting set pieces that are sure to creep out anyone playing.The tone is a little different fromSilent Hill 2, but the foundations are very similar, giving players a fairly comparable experience at times.
Players do not need to have playedThe Evil Withinto play the sequel, although some elements early on will be confusing. However, the first game is fantastic and definitely worth playing regardless.
Of course,The Evil Within 2comes from the legendary Shinji Mikami, director of the originalResident Evil, and one of the ancestors of the survival horror genre, as well as an executive producer on a number of incredible Capcom games - includingPhoenix Wright, amazingly. There’s a lot of innovation inThe Evil Within 2that may not appeal to all survival horror fans, but will definitely feel more at home with more casual players. It’s a genuine delight - albeit a very scary one - and a must-play forSilent Hill 2fans.
8Silent Hill 3 (Team Silent)

Silent Hill 3isn’t a direct sequel toSilent Hill 2, instead serving as a sequel to the first game. It’s a little confusing, but that shouldn’t put players off this undeniably bizarre and wonderful game.It’s a violent, gory, scary game with a great protagonist in the young Heather, a girl who just wants to relax and hang out at the mall, Robin Sparkles-style. Of course, things don’t exactly go to plan, and soon Heather is gunning down monsters with an Uzi while exploring blood-soaked rooms and encountering Robbie the bloody bunny.
It’s Not Too Late For A Silent Hill 2 Sequel
More than one of Silent Hill 2’s multiple endings contain the potential for James’ journey to continue in new ways, and now’s the best time for it.
Silent Hill 3definitely feels different fromSilent Hill 2, especially due to its significant change in protagonist. However, it’s never worse as a result and offers a unique spin on the genre and series. Of course, it’s worth playing it in preparation for thepotentialSilent Hill 3remake, as the enormous success of theSilent Hill 2 Remakewill surely spur Konami to hurry up its plans to make more.
7The Medium (Bloober Team)

The Medium,also fromSilent Hill 2 Remake’s Bloober Team, is definitely worth checking out. While it’s quite different fromSilent Hill, largely due to its setting and parallel worlds mechanic, it still offers those tanky controls and chilling monsters to face against, including one voiced by none other than Troy Baker.It’s also a gorgeous game with stunning interior design both in the normal world and parallel worldsettings. These environments are worth playing the game for alone.

InFatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, players direct the twin sister protagonists Mio and Mayu Amakura through a haunted Japanese village as its spirits attempt to hunt them down.Mio must use her trusty camera to fight off the ghosts while also exploring the villagein search of a way to safety. It’s an intriguing game with a fairly deep storyline that’s a joy to play through. This is definitely not for the faint of heart and will serve as a great follow-up forSilent Hill 2 Remakefans.

It’s no surprise thatAlan Wake 2was 2023’s GOTYfor many, and the DLC that launched later only helps make it an even more enticing experience for those looking for their nextSilent Hill 2-esque game. It’s a blend ofSilent HillandTwin Peaks, bringing together the best and most weird elements of Remedy Entertainment’s game design and storytelling.
LikeThe Evil Within 2,Alan Wake 2is a sequel that can be enjoyed as a standalone experience. This makes a lot of sense considering the first game launched 13 years before, in 2010. While players may miss out on some references and understanding certain characters, it’s perfectly understandable for newcomers.

While the setting is admittedly very different fromSilent Hill 2’sfog-smothered streets, the USG Ishimura is almost as iconic, proving to be a haunting place to explore, especially thanks to the many improvements of the remake.Dead Spaceis a classic for a reason, a titan in the horror genre, and well worth playing for those who enjoyedSilent Hill 2’sremake.
